Best of the Series
Revisado: 12-09-20
Don't let the new narrator discourage you, but she picks up seamlessly where everything left off. The story is the treasure here however, as the author saved the best for last. All the loose ends are tied up, and everything spins around to form a wonderful climax. It almost reminds me of a Malazan novel in that, and I would recommend this, just as I would those.

A masterwork return to the cold darkness
Revisado: 10-12-19
There was a point in this book where everything could have ended, everything closed, and a happy story told; fortunately or unfortunately, when I reached that point I realized a quarter of the book was still left. This book is a grand return to the dark places that one can go in fantasy; something I haven't listened to since the end of the Grim Company or the original First Law trilogy itself. Abercrombie's characters still are the heart and soul of this narrative and they help pull together what is a very fulfilling introduction into the age of madness.

Historia
The incessant war between the bickering city states of Quon Tali rages. So engrossed are the warring lords and princes in their own petty feuds that few notice that an upstart mage from Dal Hon has gained control of the southern seas. Kellanved could not care less about any of this petty politicking or strategy or war. Something other and altogether more mysterious has caught his attention and he - together with a reluctant and his decidedly skeptical friend Dancer - traverse continents and journey through the Realms.

A Bit Incomplete
Revisado: 09-20-19
Though the story was interesting and had it's moments, it very much felt a bit rushed and didn't have much cohesion--especially when compared to deadhouse landing. It seems that there is still a lot more to be told in the story and I hope Ian makes a sequel to this series.

Historia
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

A story about a new ruler
Revisado: 06-30-19
The title is a bit misleading in the sense that the word Goblin and Elf have a different meaning in this world, so some expectations should be dropped. At its core, this is a story of a youth put into a position of power that he did not expect, and tries to do the best with it. It isn't grimdark or the like where he would be bound for failure, but neither is it the other extreme where everything falls into place after little struggle. It is simply the trials and tribulations of a new ruler as he gets accustomed to his new role in life.

A great end to an epic series
Revisado: 11-17-18
There is much to digest here, and much that comes abruptly, but there is closure of a sort, when the dust settles, and the book is done.

An appropriate end, albeit, a bit forced
Revisado: 08-28-17
If you have read any Hobb, what you will find here should not suprised you. It felt like putting on something old and familiar. The focus, as always, is on the journey, and the trials and tribulations in it. The journey keeps you hooked and interested, but at times the contrivances taken to keep it going seem artificial. Similarly, Hobb seems to know how she wants to end the journey, but doesn't seem to know how to connect everything to get a fluid and seamless result. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed the book, and there were many a powerful scene throughout; the only issue I had was how loosely all those pieces of wonder were stiched together.
