Historia
The transition from President Donald J. Trump to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. stands as one of the most dangerous periods in American history. But as number one internationally best-selling author Bob Woodward and acclaimed reporter Robert Costa reveal for the first time, it was far more than just a domestic political crisis. Woodward and Costa interviewed more than 200 people at the center of the turmoil, resulting in more than 6,000 pages of transcripts - and a spellbinding and definitive portrait of a nation on the brink.

Required Reading For True Patriots

I'm a historian who is hell-bent on accuracy. Fact checking this book was amazing in that it's like taking breaths of pure oxygen after being woozy from the gaslighting fumes. Even if you feel like you know what happened, listen to this. It's therapeutic to hear all the truth and actual verifiable facts to help combat the constant barrage of lies from the modern day Nazis we call Trumpists.

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

Rushed.
Revisado: 06-12-20
I've loved some of Tony Riches other books, but this one feels rushed like a tour where the guide is moving to quickly to go into anything deeper than slashed sleeves or that a lady having her hair down is a sign of her purity. The beginning didn't do this nearly as bad as the end. Bummer. This could've been so much more interesting. The narrator could've been better, but did what he could considering he couldn't settle into any one emotion longer than a second before progressing the story several years and a polar opposite emotion. Exhausting.

Gryffinda? Gryffinduh? WHY?
Revisado: 05-04-20
The WHOLE book was ruined by Jim Dales odd way to narrate and do voices, but the cherry on top of this unfortunate sundae was his manner of pronouncing Gryffindor as "GRIFFIN-duh". The last syllable isn't even a syllable. It's more like his voice kept making sound after his mouth stopped saying "griffon" and that resulted in an odd leftover bit that he just verbally wiped on the end of the word in order to get rid if it. I'm buying Stephen Fry's version somehow. I'm frustrated that I can't get get it on Audible in the US because it's exclusive to the UK. Stephen Fry is awesome and knows how to honor Harry Potter's house with the proper FULL 3 syllable pronunciation of Gryffindor (GRIFF-in-DOR). I was worried there was going to be a quidditch game where Tim Dale was going to describe the Gryffindor house as they chanted, "GO! GO! GRYFFINda!" This bums me out more than the pandemic. PLEASE fix it, Audible!

On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless."

1940's era news style reel staccato? BOO!
Revisado: 04-28-20
I'm in love with Winston because he's a badass. So, I ignored the reviews about the distracting cringingly bad narration until about 46sec into the book. MISTAKE!!! It would've only been 30sec, but my phone was across the room. Audible, PLEASE get a better narrator! Steve Vance? Stephen Fry? Anyone that sounds natural when they talk instead of using rhythm, tone, and inflection in a way that keeps the listener so constantly aware of the narrator that they can't relax into the immersive experience this story could be with someone else. It's the audio equivalent of over acting. I don't want to be aware of the narrator more than the story. SO BUMMED OUT! Winston deserves better!

This is the 5th time I've listened.
Revisado: 08-28-19
I never ever get tired of this trilogy even if only 2 parts are currently available. I've listened to them 5 or 6 times each and will listen to both again in the days immediately prior to the release of part 3. You might only want to listen once, but you won't regret it. The style of subtle humor perfectly sets the tone for this book that is told from the mind of Cromwell. There are things that are repeated, but only because he's remembering and referencing that previous event. I love that it's effortlessly captivating. Listen to Wolf Hall first and commit to 20min, you won't look back and you won't regret it.

Wish I hadn't waited so long for this one!
Revisado: 08-20-19
I was highly entertained by this book. It made a wonderful escape and I was so happy to know there was a sequel. I was happy, that is, until I saw to my horror that Heather Wilds narrates the sequel and not Katie Firth, the narrator of Shadow On The Crown. What an epic mistake to not continue the masterful marriage of a captivating story with a captivating storyteller! Katie Firth did a wonderful job on this and I wish she'd been allowed to continue. Time after time, I'll be excited to see there's a sequel to a book I love, or another book from a favorite author, but if that book is narrated by Heather Wilds, I know better than to even try. I get too tense waiting for the stumbling, predictable cadence to loop back around to the high note she hits for emphasis or possibly due to some type of tonal Tourette's syndrome. THIS book is wonderful.
Audible Team, PLEASE fix narration issue and bring back Katie Firth for the sequel to this book. Read the reviews for the sequel and you'll be overwhelmed by the fact that almost every one of them complains bitterly about Heather Wilds' "style" of "narrating" perfectly wonderful books into little more than aversion therapy.

Historia
They were confidantes to British prime ministers, poets, writers, and artists, their lives entwined with the most celebrated and scandalous figures of the day, from Oscar Wilde to Henry James. They were the lovers of great men - or men of great prominence... They lived in a world of luxurious excess, a world of splendor at 44 Belgrave Square and later at the even more vast Clouds, the exquisite Wiltshire house on 4,000 acres, the "house of the age", designed in 1876 by the visionary architect Philip Webb - the model for Henry James' The Spoils of Poynton.

Perfection. Utter Perfection. An absolute gem.
Revisado: 05-09-19
As a rule, I don't usually go for books where the author narrates their own work, because I feel that it's rare that it can be done without the quality suffering to some extent. THIS is that rarity. I can't imagine anyone else doing this enthralling labor of love the justice it deserves. I involuntarily placed my hand over my heart at the poignient last sentence. Bravo! I'm literally about to listen to it another time because I want, no, NEED it to all start over again.

This is one if those rare gems where a pleasantly captivating story and masterful, yet, subtle narration blend together seamlessly to create an immersive experience as they transport you to another time & place. There were no jarring accents or overdone voices. I could see all of it, map the village, feel the cold of winter & warmth of the hearthstone, and taste the food. It was wonderful! I want, no, NEED more books like this!

Revisado: 11-21-17
Do you love incest AND 18th century drama? Well, look no further!
WORST Philippa Gregory book I've ever experienced. Well performed, but fascinatingly awful plot. It's the kind of cringy story that makes you want to take a scalding hot bath afterwards and lie about knowing anything about it. I felt sorry for the narrator. There should've been a conversation with her editors where they said, "Philippa, we were hoping for less stomach-churning hate sex." Morbidly curious about other 2 books in this series, but wouldn't be willing to listen to either of them even if I was paid to do so.
