Disappointing addition to the series
Revisado: 07-18-16
I have enjoyed all the prior Secret Histories books. SPOILER ALERT: Each of the books was complete in it's self and came to a satisfactory resolution. This book, however, fails to resolve the basic story line and ends on a cliff hanger. It is a disappointing addition to an outstanding series.

I am sorely dissappointed
Revisado: 03-01-16
I had eagerly awaited this sequel in the Sanctuary series. I truly enjoyed the first book. Unfortunately, the pacing in this book is so slow and the story so not engaging that I found myself only wishing it would end. I felt the book dragged out interminably. I could never raise any empathy for the characters, particularly the main protagonist. In short, the book is monumentally boring.

But the wily Terrans are not so easily persuaded by a young colonial they think of as a "rube".

Could barely get through this book
Revisado: 03-11-15
This book is the world's best cure for insomnia. The characters are completely un-engaging and the the technology is ridiculous. I had to force myself to listen to the end. The attempt by another reviewer to relate Allen Allenson to Daniel Leary is stretching credulity to the breaking point. If you haven't read the RCN series, please do yourself a favor and do it in lieu of this hideous excuse for a novel.

I bumped this to triple speed to finish it
Revisado: 11-25-14
The pace of this book is excruciatingly slow. Neither the plot nor the characters have any complexity or depth. The heroine has no redeeming qualities and her companions are so two dimensional that you have no empathy for them at all. After mumbling, get on with it over and over again, I finally bumped up to triple speed just to finish it. I cannot truly blame the narrator as I believe she was saddled with truly pathetic material. Of all the books I have listened to on Audible, this one was truly the worst.

Not worth the effort to continue with the series
Revisado: 11-18-14
I listened to the first two books of this series and enjoyed them. I waited for the third book to become available. Then books 4, 5, and 6 showed up in the future and the seventh was announced to be coming. At that point, I gave up. Neither the characters nor the plot line could possibly support a seven book arc. Dragging this out can only be a rehash of the same problems and same villains over and over. This series could have been ended easily as a trilogy. I will likely wait till the seventh book comes available and listen to it. I am sure I will not have missed any important story line in the other 4 books.

Enjoyed this Story
Revisado: 06-21-13
I normally do not listen/read books labeled as "1" unless I see the remaining books in the series are available. I have no patience and waiting for the others to come out is a huge annoyance. The synopsis here was intriguing enough to get me to listen. I am glad that I took the chance. If you are into sword and fantasy this is a book for you. There are 4 other books in this series. I hope they are available on Audible soon.

Generally, a very good story
Revisado: 12-09-12
I enjoy a good military space opera. This one is no exception. However, I am rather annal about using the correct terminology especially when the author tries to explain a term in detail. In this case, either the author or the reader did not know the difference between the term ecliptic and elliptic. This was a flaw in both volumes of this work. There was a great deal of explanation in the book describing the meaning of elliptic when the term that was being defined was ecliptic. Even though I had to grate my teeth whenever the term was used, I enjoyed the book and recommend it.

Historia
In Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle, Matthew Stover created a new kind of fantasy novel, and a new kind of hero to go with it: Caine, a street thug turned superstar, battling in a future where reality shows take place in another dimension, on a world where magic exists and gods are up close and personal. In that beautiful, savage land, Caine is an assassin without peer, a living legend born from one of the highest-rated reality shows ever made.

Not a finished piece
Revisado: 03-05-12
In my opinion, this novel is not a finished piece. The length is less than half the previous two books. While not definitive, the book just ended leaving too much unresolved. It is an obvious segue way into more books in the series, but more than that, it leaves you the feeling that the book was rushed to publication unfinished just to get something out the door.
While, in general, I enjoy the series as it is well written and a unique concept, this book was a major stumble. The protagonist has devolved from a tough, self assured winner to a self pitying loser (at least in this portion). Perhaps if the book had been finished, we would be seeing a different outcome.

Ghost Finder, another good Simon R Green series
Revisado: 01-09-12
Simon R Green, prolific author of the Nightside and Secret Histories series scores another hit with the Ghost Finders. Ghost of a smile is the sequel to Ghost of a Chance and in order to understand much of what is going on here, you should really listen to (or read) Ghost of a Chance first. The protagonists, each somewhat off putting on the surface, have a much deeper depth of character and come together to become a cohesive and compassionate team who truly care for each other. The ending leaves no doubt more is to follow, and I look forward to the next installment. Whether or not you are lucky enough to be a fan of Green, I highly recommend this series.

An unfortunate disappointment
Revisado: 12-01-11
After waiting years for this conclusion to be published, it was a major disappointment. The only good thing to say about it was that the narrator did an outstanding job.
The story was horribly overblown. Paolini never missed a chance to use 100 words where 10 would have sufficed. But, the worst part was the incredibly disappointing ending. It is obvious that the author is young. He resorted to the prosaic comic book super hero ending where the super hero must sacrifice his own happiness for the good of all and give up any chance for love, family, friendship and a normal life.
As has been stated in other reviews, the ending also left a multitude of story threads dangling with no resolution. If this was merely a ploy to garner support for an outcry for a followup to resolve all these issues, he has lost me.
This was a weak and unnecessary ending to what could have been a powerful series.
