There seems to a disconnect between the the book’s depiction of Ernest and the movie version. And it’s very important.

Love this series. Vivid. Noire. (Well, 21st century deconstructed and digitized noire) Brain-worming. Addictive. Binge-worthy. Soon to be a major motion picture?

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Murder Mystery Solved. Or is it?
Revisado: 10-20-23
I couldn’t believe that a short-form murder mystery could be so enthralling. Zachary Quinto’s deadpan voicing is perfect. The nice thing is, there is room for a sequel, which I hope is coming. If so, it would benefit from a voicer for the female roles. Quinto is good, his female voices sometimes lose their register.

What is a Monster? Ask Medusa
Revisado: 05-13-23
It is ironic that our modern-day familiarity with the story of Perseus is mostly seen through the stone statues that — not Medusa — but world famous sculptors have created. This book is an outstanding reimagining of the myth. What exactly is a monster? And how many players in the story of Perseus can share that stigma? See answers through many eyes, but learn the stone cold truth through the eyes of Medusa.

Historia
Born under different stars—Mungo a Protestant and James a Catholic—they should be sworn enemies if they’re to be seen as men at all. Their environment is a hyper-masculine and sectarian one, for gangs of young men and the violence they might dole out dominate the Glaswegian estate where they live. And yet against all odds Mungo and James become best friends as they find a sanctuary in the pigeon dovecote that James has built for his prize racing birds.

This should be a movie
Revisado: 02-25-23
What happens when poverty and its pathologies infect Glasgow after the decline of local industry? Tribal wars are catalyzed by ignorance and despair. Violence, both physical and psychological, are normalized. Sexual exploitation crossdresses as manliness. And in this blighted soil, where the flowers of evil are tended, a single blossom of love struggles to grow through the choking weeds of hate.
This book is not for the faint of heart. But it does reward your loyalty to see it through to the end.

For 60 years Jewish refugees and their descendants have prospered in the federal district of Sitka, a temporary safe haven created in the wake of the Holocaust and the shocking 1948 collapse of the fledgling state of Israel. The Jews of the Sitka District have created their own little world in the Alaskan panhandle, a vibrant and complex frontier city that moves to the music of Yiddish. But now the district is set to revert to Alaskan control, and their dream is coming to an end.

Revisado: 11-29-22
The alternate world of a homeland for Yiddish-speaking refugees from Europe. That world is a colony on Alaska's Sitka Island. There, gritty gonifs, shady Hasids, and hard-boiled detectives intermingle in a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, and encircled by what might just be cosmic forces. I hate can't, but there is other word than spellbinding.

Historia
Remembrance of Things Past is one of the monuments of 20th-century literature. The Guermantes Way is the third of seven volumes. The narrator penetrates the inner sanctum of Paris high society and falls in love with the fascinating Duchesse de Guermantes. Proust describes vividly the struggles for political, social, and sexual supremacy played out beneath a veneer of elegant manners. He also finds himself pursued by the predatory Baron de Charlus.

André Aciman Was Right
Revisado: 10-18-21
Reading Proust WILL change your life. I'm only halfway through the 6 volumes at this point, and I use the term "volumes" advisedly. The sheer amount of prose is like nothing you have experienced before or will ever after. You observe the flaying of the superficial speech of the moneyed and titled. You are an observer of the vivesection of their vacuous lives. There must be an entire gland and endocrinological system in the human body, as yet undiscovered by the science of medicine that produces the amount of morbid curiosity needed to continue reading. Courage, mes chers lecteurs. Courage!

Historia
In a small East Anglian town, Florence Green decides, against polite but ruthless local opposition, to open a bookshop. Hardborough becomes a battleground. Florence has tried to change the way things have always been done, and as a result she has to take on not only the people who have made themselves important but natural and even supernatural forces, too. Her fate will strike a chord with anyone who knows that life has treated them with less than justice.

Spoiler Alert: Skip Chapter 2 -- It Ruins the Book
Revisado: 12-13-20
I realize that Audible wants to present the book as written. In this case, you first get the preface. This is no problem. But then you get an "Introduction." In fact, it is a review that tells you everything of importance that happens.
I literally could not believe my ears. Audible should immediately correct this and place the "Intro" at the end, or at least note that listeners who do not wish to to hear David Nicholls' description of the book should skip chapter 2.
The book itself is outstanding. But I had to give low marks to performance and overall experience because it was ruined by chapter 2.

Outstanding Writing, Yes. Lovecraft Homage, Meh
Revisado: 10-28-20
Lovecraft Country is well imagined and the writing is outstanding. The lace-up between Jim Crow white supremacist treatment of African Americans and their manipulation by white magi makes a poignant counterpoint. I highly recommend this -- you won't see what's coming any sooner than the characters do.
BUT.
If what you're looking for is a straightforward homage to Lovecraft, or HP fan fiction, this isn't it. A foreknowledge of Lovecraft is not a price of admission. Of course, acquaintance with Lovecraft's world of horror will enrich your engagement with the story. But anyone can read or listen to this book for an authentically eldritch and outre waking nightmare. Best enjoyed around Halloween.
