Magical plot with twists and unpredictable end. Superb.
Revisado: 09-11-24
As magical as another favorite- The Night Circus. Maybe even better. Narration was superb and the many characters were definitely distinctive. A book that I’m so glad I listened to, instead of reading it.

Great storyline, at times lacked fluidity

Lovely plot with a tad too many sidebar stories (e.g., curse). Not a fan of English narrator. Would have preferred a Russian accent.

Historia
Mrs. Post, the President and First Lady are here to see you. . . . So begins another average evening for Marjorie Merriweather Post. Presidents have come and gone, but she has hosted them all. Growing up in the modest farmlands of Battle Creek, Michigan, Marjorie was inspired by a few simple rules: always think for yourself, never take success for granted, and work hard—even when deemed American royalty, even while covered in imperial diamonds.

Money can’t buy everything- but keep trying.
Revisado: 02-23-24
I just didn’t like character/portrayal that much- MMP’s often know-it-all personality overshadowed some of her great achievements.
Strong-willed, driven, worldly, and yet so naive about men. Also, the narration seemed too slow. Had to speed it up.

Disappointing plot - Narrator choice questionable
Revisado: 11-06-23
I don’t know where to begin…This read like it was from an amateur novelist. The narration of Mitch’s character sounded pathetic and pleading throughout. Ridiculous overuse of Italian recipes and Italian cooking and food. Why?! I had to goad myself to finish it but wish now I surrendered early. Waste of time.

Prob better as a book than an Audiobook
Revisado: 02-02-23
Very good story but felt this audiobook was somewhat marred by certain narrators’ performances- Caroline’s and the historian/librarian characters both sounded too immature and their spoken words seemed ill-fitting against their voices.

Don't believe low reviews-Great emotional suspense
Revisado: 01-21-23
As an Irish American who has been to NYC's St. Patrick's Cathedral many times, this book theme was a very emotional, suspenseful read in a highly charged political atmosphere. I almost didn't get this because of the many low reviews, but am so glad I listened to a friend instead. He's read most of the DeMille books and said this was a good one. My favorites so far are Charm School and The General's Daughter. Plum Island was very good except for the unnecessary version of the book on Audible - Plum Island-"Booktrack Edition". Def order Plum Island from a different audible book source than Audible. The normal titled "Plum Island" audible book must be better than this version. Cathedral is a great read. Def not a disappointment.

Just didn't realize this was more the author's autobiography when I bought it. Interesting life story, just was expecting to dive right into merits of meditation.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Amazing story- heart-breaking, inspirational, entertaining
Revisado: 02-26-17
Kudos to Trevor Noah. I'm too much a Baby Boomer to watch him on TV, but I loved his book tremendously. His insightfulness is incredible. I don't know if I admire him or his mother more, but both are true survivors that decided to thrive and persist under such unjust and harsh circumstances of Apartheid and beyond. I learned so much painful South African history from him and am so grateful to be better informed -yet saddened by such truths. He is a marvel to come through such a childhood and still behold such a gift of wisdom and humor.

Longed for more "body reading" in storyline
Revisado: 09-06-16
Book was good, not great. Liked the plot, premise, characters- but really hoped- by the title- that main character would have almost ESP-like powers after her experience and felt a bit letdown that it was written in more subtly.

Intriguing plot, great twists, deep characters
Revisado: 08-26-16
What did you love best about Out?
Liked all the characters and their development and nuances. The storyline was very creative, well-spun and unique. It was also wonderful to read a book based in Japan for a change. So many books I read are based in Europe or the US and I enjoyed the change of place tremendously, especially also having visited Japan in the past.
What does Emily Woo Zeller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This was a great book to listen to. I enjoyed the Asian accent of the narrator which really brought the book to life. She was excellent as a narrator as well. Though the story was excellent, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed reading the book as much as I did listening to it.
