Painful To The Core

Mariah’s story and life was very painful to listen to. I just cannot understand why she would let her mother and brother hurt her so many times as an adult. I kept thinking to myself, “Come On Mariah! Really?!” She let them talk her back into their dysfunctional world knowing that they have never ever had her best interests at heart. I really appreciated at the end where she said to never let anyone (and she listed them all) stifle your dreams.

Hilarious!!!

This was the best book I have ever listened to! I love it when the writers read their own words. It is amazing how Will remembers all his experiences and quotes from everyone he has ever come in contact with. He projects the voices of his grandmother, best friends, and famous people with ease. One of my favorite parts is when one of the young men working for him gets his head put in a toilet while they were working on the Mohammed Ali film and his best friend conveys just how uncool that was. I will definitely listen to this over and over again. Thank you Will for sharing your story with us.

Who would have known that Jada Koren Pinkett Smith was and is such an urban, street wise lady? My first knowledge of her was in earlier films from the 90s. Then she married Will. I have always thought they were good together. Thank you so much Jada for allowing an intimate look into the ups and downs of your world. I was able to gain a better and deeper perspective without all the media hype and rumors. I plan to go back and bookmark all the thought provoking meditations at the end of each chapter. I love your insights and agree with so much of what was said. You needed inner peace and I am so glad that you found it. You and your family are an inspiration. I appreciate you.

This book was so relatable to me on so many levels. The struggle of women of color to survive in a male dominated world. We are mothers, wives, sisters, friends, aunts, daughters, and workers at home and in careers. I loved the fact that she read the words herself. I also loved how she gave kudos to so many other women who have paved the way. Keep it up Taraji! You Go Girl!!!

I dislike gaslighting in all its forms so it was very hard for me to listen to the main character go through this. I was so glad that she wised up before it was too late. The ending was well worth the wait.

I enjoyed the book except for the character of Cathy. She was so clueless and naive. It was very painful listening to her whine her way through the story. She just lets the husband manipulate and the villain do serious acts without a fight. The character acted so dumb it was hard to finish.

The sound effects were better than any other audio performance I have heard! It made the hair on my neck stand up it was so creepy. I would love to hear another. Please, please make another one. I had to listen to it twice I liked it so much.
