Loved this text! I was a stay-at-home mom with babies #1 and 2, but was consumed with depression before baby #3, I decided to go back to school after baby #3 but was still home with him most of the time (unknowingly doing a version of flex mom life). Was surprised with baby #4 at the end of my masters degree and chose to go right into my career. Three years later I am seeing behavioral differences between my two older children and my two younger children and have tracked them back to differences in parenting. I started thinking about going back to being at home full-time but feared a significant relapse in depression. I accidentally happened upon this title and it shed light on why being at home the first time didn’t work, why working full time isn’t working and how I can prevent slipping back into a major depression when I decide to leave my job. Thank you so much for the insight that we don’t have to choose one life or the other we can do both just with a shifted perspective. Thank you for helping to alleviate some of the guilt I have been feeling for having spent so much of my family’s time, money, energy on my degrees and then choosing to stay home anyone.
