Historia
Paris, 1917. The notorious dancer Mata Hari sits in a cold cell awaiting freedom...or death. Alone and despondent, she is as confused as the rest of the world about the charges she's been arrested on: treason leading to the deaths of thousands of French soldiers. As she waits for her fate to be decided, she relays the story of her life to a reporter who is allowed to visit her in prison.

Zara Ramm saves this book
Revisado: 12-07-23
I didn't care for the main characters but wanted to know the fictionalized story of Mata Hari. I prefer other Michelle Moran books but this wasn't bad. Sort of repetitive when it comes to the character, so it tells me that the book could have been edited to be shorter.

Goodnight Moon is an adored childhood classic, but its real origins are lost to history. In Goodnight June, Sarah Jio offers a suspenseful and heartfelt take on how the "great green room" might have come to be. June Andersen is professionally successful, but her personal life is marred by unhappiness. Unexpectedly, she is called to settle her great-aunt Ruby's estate and determine the fate of Bluebird Books, the children's bookstore Ruby founded in the 1940s.

A mix of emotions
Revisado: 06-14-16
I began the story hating the main character June. she was fairly unlikable but as the story progresses she changes. some aspects, I found a little odd or predictable. Some aspects of story made me tear up or be surprised. Sarah Jio usually delivers a great story. The narrator was way too old-sounding for most of the voices and not very much like a 30 year old. I found it bothersome. She did a pretty good job reading with proper inflection but just didn't sound like any 30-something I know.

She is allowed to feed the newborns in the royal nursery and then to become a forager, flying alone and free to collect nectar and pollen.

Interesting perspective
Revisado: 05-22-16
The point of view was unique and I liked learning about beehive operations and politics in general. Sort of slow at points but I listened at a bit quicker speed. which helped keep it moving.

Historia
To the uninitiated, Savannah shows only her bright face and genteel manner. Those who know her well, though, can see beyond her colonial trappings and small-city charm to a world where witchcraft is respected, Hoodoo is feared, and spirits linger. Mercy Taylor is all too familiar with the supernatural side of Savannah, being a member of the most powerful family of witches in the South. Despite being powerless herself, of course. Having grown up without magic of her own, in the shadow of her talented and charismatic twin sister, Mercy has always thought herself content.

Narration good; story okay
Revisado: 01-11-15
I ended up buying this because I had a deal on amazon/audible but also because I really liked the narration of the sample. The narrator ended up being pretty good throughout and did a lot of voices relatively convincingly. I'm not quite sure I loved the story but it was okay. I have the second book, The Source on audible as well.
