Historia
As if baking holiday cookies, knitting a sweater for her husband, and making her daughter’s angel costume for the church pageant weren’t enough things for Lucy Stone’s busy Christmas schedule, she’s also working nights at the famous mail-order company Country Cousins. But when she discovers Sam Miller, its very wealthy founder, dead in his car from an apparent suicide, the sleuth in her knows something just doesn’t smell right.

Aged poorly
Revisado: 12-17-24
The mystery is a tiny subplot to the main character complaining about her lists of tasks. Even the Christmas part was a side plot. Really outdated views on women, children and especially animals.

Bland, generic story - complete waste of time
Revisado: 10-31-21
This story is such a boring, generic, throwaway CSI episode. No depth to characters, zero humanity. The two main characters are stereotypes from decades ago that are aging poorly. Nothing unique about the murders, killer or detectives that makes this book worth reading.
Narration was fine. The story is just really bad. It is fast, though, and requires zero brain power.

2 hour book is somehow repetitive
Revisado: 11-19-20
This isn't a good book. I honestly don't understand how a 2 hour book can be so repetitive. Why did we need to hear the marriage license / fishing story 3+ times? Why is the "conflict" so glossed over when all we're hearing is a bunch of gossipy ladies talking about how the actor *may* be in a disreputable industry (was this ever proven)? Why was her former high school love such a non-existent character if he is such a cause of internal conflict?
Really, avoid this book. It was very unsatisfactory.

Historia
Snowing in Bali is the story of the drug trafficking and dealing scene that's made Bali one of the world's most important destinations in the global distribution of narcotics. With its central location to the Asia Pacific market, its thriving tourist industry to act as cover for importation, and a culture of corruption that can easily help law enforcement turn a blind eye, Bali has long been a paradise for traffickers as well as for holiday-makers. Kathryn Bonella, best-selling author of Hotel Kerobokan, has been given extraordinary access into the lives of some of the biggest players in Bali's drug world, both past and present.

Interesting Look at the Drug Trade in Bali
Revisado: 11-12-18
An interesting look at the drug trade in the 1990s/early 2000s in Bali, Indonesia. The stories are primarily from the perspective of the bosses or the near-bosses. The system is corrupt, people are desperate for money or new things to do and many tourists come with significant cash to spend. It is amazing what people are willing to risk for a live hard lifestyle.
It does get rather repetitive and the book could have been reduced by at least 20%. Some of the clever ways of smuggling drugs in are no longer clever 20 mentioned later (despite the author suggesting otherwise). I also wished there were more perspectives from the desperate drug mules, since that's a whole different motive for acting.

Make sure you know what you’re getting into
Revisado: 11-14-17
I’m coming into this book with no background. Never listened to the podcast, didn’t know any of the history, just saw a trusted friend’s high-praise review. I tried listening with my SO on a long road trip and they made me switch to a new book after 4 hours. It’s very polarizing.
This book is full of “shower comebacks” - those little cute or clever witticisms you come up with in the shower, hours after. So many clever little commentaries, but ultimately for no purpose. Oh, this isn’t a door you turn, it’s a door you bleed on! Why? The book will never say. Hey it’s a bunch of angels, but you aren’t suppose to acknowledge them and they have the same name and live in a house! Why? Who knows. Imagine a boy, a different one, another different one. Why? Shrug.

Historia
A Room with a View portrays the love of a British woman for an expatriate living in Italy, a country which to Forster represents the forces of true passion. Caught up in a world of social snobbery, Forster's heroine, Lucy Honeychurch, finds herself constrained by the claustrophobic influence of her British guardians, who encourage her to take up with a well-connected boor.

Dated, slow-moving story
Revisado: 05-14-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It is a classic, and in that sense, it is worth reading to understand references to it. That being said, I don't think it will stand to be as time-tested as books of a similar time period. The characters are predictable and the plot has no twists.
What three words best describe Frederick Davidson’s performance?
Slow, background noise
Was A Room with a View worth the listening time?
The book is short and the audio version is a quick way to check off this classic. The narrator wasn't the best selection and often you can hear background noise of other voice artists reading other books in the background. This is odd, considering Frederick Davidson (also known as David Case) has read over 800 books in his lifetime.

Incredibly engaging audiobook
Revisado: 04-19-12
Where does 1Q84 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the top 25% of the audiobooks I've listened to.
What did you like best about this story?
The story was engaging from the beginning and I liked how the characters moved towards each other with the repetition of symbols. The differences between the readers voices helped separate the characters as distinct people which added to the story, as the gradual merging began to intertwine storylines.

Historia
Jane Eyre remains a classic of 19th-century English literature and is the most famous and influential novel by Charlotte Bronte. Published in 1847, one of the most popular of all English novels, the story tells of the rise of a poor orphan girl against overwhelming odds. It is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes exploring themes that have as much relevance today as in the time it was written.

The reader made the book
Revisado: 11-28-10
I bought this audiobook to "read" a classic which has somehow evaded me. I am not a fan of the Bronte or Austin type of literature, but I found myself listening outside of the car and exercising to hear what happens next. Most of that credit probably goes to the reader, whose voice is perfect for this type of novel.
