Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Pretty good, kept my interest.
Revisado: 04-02-16
What did you love best about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children?
I really felt the romance between Emma and Jacob. Also, I liked the Grandfather and how his story haunted Jacobs. I also liked how the writer showed how the bad guys followed Jacob, I thought that was cleverly done.
What other book might you compare Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children to and why?
I can't think of any particular books except that the entrance to the loop where the Peculiar Children lived was kind of like the Wardrobe in 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe'. One reviewer likened it to Professor X's school for young X-Men. That is sort of true only that reviewer meant it negatively. I don't.
What does Jesse Bernstein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr. Bernstein is a very good reader. His voice never gets tiresome or repetitive which is good because that saved him from the fact that when he's voice acting - that is, reading actual dialog - his rendering is pretty over the top and yet it doesn't take you out of the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Just a few little moments, the romantic moments between Emma and Jacob
Any additional comments?
This was a 'pretty good' book. The characters are mostly convincing and the story engaging. My only criticism is that the bad guys aren't really all that menacing and attempts to create suspense in the book don't really work.
Overall 3.5 for the book and the narrator and I'm looking forward to the movie this fall.

Great Performance, enjoyable but unsatisfying book
Revisado: 04-17-15
Would you listen to South of the Border, West of the Sun again? Why?
Maybe. The narrator did a fine job
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The overall theme of the book; the big question: 'What if'. The way that question can haunt you.
Which character – as performed by Eric Loren – was your favorite?
The main character.
If you could rename South of the Border, West of the Sun, what would you call it?
'Roads Not Taken' or maybe 'In Search of Lost Loves'
Any additional comments?
The book was intelligent and bravely asked some big questions without being heavy handed about it. The 'getting there' was enjoyable; I love the way Murakami writes and I really did care about all of the characters. The ending, though, left a lot of story points unanswered and that really annoyed me. I know he may have done that on purpose but it still didn't work with me.

Historia
Two on a Tower is Hardy's ninth novel and contains perhaps his most complete use of the theme of love across the class and age divide, to beautifully depict Hardy's reverence for science and astronomy. The unhappily married Lady Constantine breaks all the rules of social etiquette when she falls in love with young Swithin St. Cleeve, an astronomer and her social inferior. Despite their differences that society deems unacceptable, together, from an astronomical observatory, the lovers 'sweep the heavens'.

Good Story Great Narration
Revisado: 02-21-14
If you could sum up Two on a Tower in three words, what would they be?
almost classic... almost
What was one of the most memorable moments of Two on a Tower?
The final scene
Which character – as performed by Michael Kitchen – was your favorite?
Lady Constantine
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not quite, the narration was spot on but the story had some slow points
Any additional comments?
This is generally regarded as a minor work of Hardy's. If that's true then it's still better than most famous authors' masterpieces. I fell in love with the heroine and the setting and Hardy had a lot to say from which he did not shy away.
It wasn't a perfect book. The hero Swithin, never quite materialized for me and I'm not sure how much I felt the romance. I loved her but not really 'them'. There were a few slow spots too and the very last sentence of the book was for me a huge disappointment and a mistake on Hardy's part in my humble opinion.
Still, the book is very much worth reading. 3.5 stars for the book. 5 stars for Michael Kitchen's performance

Not bad, but frankly disappointing after the excellent 'the gates'. The narrator did a fine job.
