Historia
Here is an entirely new side of Kurt Vonnegut, Vonnegut as a teacher of writing. Of course he's given us glimpses before, with aphorisms and short essays and articles and in his speeches. But never before has an entire book been devoted to Kurt Vonnegut the teacher. Here is pretty much everything Vonnegut ever said or wrote having to do with the writing art and craft, altogether a healing, a nourishing expedition.

Learning through story telling
Revisado: 05-27-20
There are plenty of good tips for writers in here, and many of them come to you through the stories of Kurt's life and the author's life, as she learned from Kurt. It's about how writing is a way of life, a way to express yourself and work through the details and plot lines of your own life. To do that, the author demonstrates the lessons, and how they played out in the life and times of Kurt Vonnegut. I took some notes, but much of was just absorbed through listening.

Historia
More than almost anything else, globalization and the great world religions are shaping our lives, affecting everything from the public policies of political leaders and the economic decisions of industry bosses and employees to university curricula, all the way to the inner longings of our hearts. Integral to both globalization and religions are compelling, overlapping, and sometimes competing visions of what it means to live well.

Takes some work on your part
Revisado: 01-25-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, it is a unique perspective, not confrontational and provides thorough background for his argument.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's non-fiction, I guess I liked Roger Williams from the MA Bay Colony. He believed in religious freedom while maintaining personal faith.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Tom Perkins?
Sure
Did Flourishing inspire you to do anything?
I made two blog entries. Further inspiration to bridge the church/secular barrier.
Any additional comments?
Volf leaves a lot out of his stories and skips over history that his inconvenient to his argument. So I was unconvinced in the end. But that isn't entirely the point of the book. It was try to see things from someone else's POV.

Historia
Learning Spanish Like Crazy was developed to teach everyday conversational Latin American Spanish. The course was developed after the creator of the course realized that the Spanish that he had learned from other self-study Spanish courses was completely different from the Spanish that he was hearing Spanish speakers speak in Latin America and the U.S.

Successful trip to Colombia
Revisado: 08-18-10
I just returned from a trip to Colombia and was thankful that I took these lessons. I was travelling with some bi-lingual people, but we were in areas where no English is spoken and sometimes I was on my own. I supplemented my lessons by finding translations of Colombian music (Juanes, Shakira, Aline) and by looking up some grammatical lessons elsewhere on the web. I also had a dictionary with me. The emails from the company were also very helpful.
To continue with these lessons, I would prefer that they be arranged by topic, such as "future conditional" or "Colombian slang". Otherwise, I am very happy. Any frustration one might feel attempting to listen to the speakers in the lessons is only a shadow of how it feels to talk with a real native. It really helped me prepare.

The Story of Philosophy is a timeless overview of Western thought. Will Durant's goal was to humanize knowledge by centering the story around certain dominant personalities. He brilliantly illustrates how philosophy has evolved over time, explaining the historical, cultural, and political context of each movement and each great thinker. The best-selling philosophy book of the past century, this masterpiece of eloquent, clear prose continues to fascinate.

Not too bad
Revisado: 10-24-09
Spends just enough time developing the historical context, without getting bogged down in it. The personalities were always presented in an entertaining way. Spends a lot of time analyzing the philosophy, first presents it, then gives criticisms, some his, some historical. Focus is on Plato, Aristotle, Bacon, Spinoza and Voltaire. Others are mentioned but not covered in detail.

Historia
Le Show is a program of satire, humor, and commentary about the week's news. Comedy sketches written and performed by multi-talented multimedia artist Harry Shearer, interwoven with an eclectic, ever-changing blend of music; from world to pop, soul to jazz. Shearer says about Le Show, "I do it because I don't do standup, and I don't do sitcoms, and the radio broadcast enables me to do what I think is funny in a broadcast medium without having to listen either to network executives or Canadian producers."

Not much of anything
Revisado: 07-14-04
Harry seemed unprepared for the shows I have heard. He had trouble pronouncing names, added little or no commentary. What he added seemed like he was trying to be funny, but failed. His comedic timing was poor, his style unique, but not funny. His comments were basically liberal, which I normally like, but they added no value. He seemed to think the news itself was the joke, which it is, but I can get that on any news program. I am also a very eclectic listener when it comes it to music, and his choices were mostly poor. They did nothing but fill up time.
