Hearing the account of what happened… as it was happening … where it was happening … is very interesting and helpful in understanding the history of this world changing era … appreciate perspective of his experience as war correspondent through the personal journal he kept at the time …

Historia
Late December, 1818: As Captain Gabriel Lacey prepares for his upcoming wedding, his former neighbor, Marianne Simmons, comes to him about an actress friend who's gone missing. Lacey agrees to help look for the actress, little realizing that the search will pit him against men who think nothing of abduction, assault, or sending incendiary devices to the innocent.

Love Lacey / volume problem
Revisado: 02-13-25
I’ve read all of the Captain Lacey series and enjoy rediscovering them a second time on Audible… I’m impressed by this author’s ability to bring the characters to life and how each story… while having similar elements … is still unique and keeps reader so engaged. The narration is great and enhances the stories even further… I’m not sure why… but on this particular book… I was constantly having to adjust the volume … most often during sections of dialogue… one moment loud for an exclamation and then would become so soft that couldn’t understand what was being said… I enjoy the series so much that I hesitate to leave this one thing about this one book that’s less than stellar…. On the other hand… maybe that’s exactly why I should pass it along… I’ll leave on a the positive that this is a great read and a great listen … love the characters and the stories about them…

Greatest Bedtime Story
Revisado: 03-02-23
My mother also read this book to me when I was a little girl… she definitely could have been an audible narrator as she was able to bring the characters to life with their own voices and accents. It instantly became my favorite book and instilled in me a lifelong love of reading … the next book she read to me at bedtime was Heidi… I’d love to have had Dicken, Peter, Heidi, Mary, Clara and Collin all meet… what a great group of friends they’d be and were to me then and now
