Most sentimental horror novel ever!
Revisado: 01-29-23
Excellent book for anyone in early middle age dealing with the revelations of generational trauma, but also still a horror buff!

Get ready for ALL the Cliches!
Revisado: 09-29-22
The protagonist was extremely shallow and unlikeable. After the glowing reviews I expected B.A. Paris, but got JD Robb. I was so sad I wasted my credit on this smutty book :( bought it for a road trip and so had to finish it no less...worst book I have listened to in years! For someone who usually goes for the discount rack that is saying a lot. Please note I rarely write reviews and never negative ones! But this was just. so. exceptionally. bad.😞 Please don't waste your precious credit!

With all the neg. reviews I almost didn't buy...but it's actually very edgy with many twists and turns.

Historia
In 1959, a family of four were brutally murdered in Holcomb, Kansas. Perry Smith and Dick Hickok were convicted and executed for the crime, and the murders and their investigation and solution became the subject of Truman Capote's masterpiece, In Cold Blood. But what if there was a third killer, who remained unknown? What if there was another family, also murdered, who crossed paths with this band of killers, though their murder remains unsolved? And what if Dick Hickok left a written confession, explaining everything?

Such a disappointment! Don't waste your credit.
Revisado: 03-20-21
It's almost like it was written by someone else! Recently rented "Rage against the Dying" it was so awesome. I think the voice performance made it for me. Having served in the military and back country land management agencies myself I have known many a "tough old broad" who were also secretly sensitive and good people. Rage against the dying was so realistic and great character development!
This book is the opposite, very cringeworthy gross corny sex scenes awful narration, why switch narrators in a series like this they usually keep the same one!? The plot was unique and interesting (why I gave 2 stars) but the author managed to make the lead protagonist seem mean, spiteful and absurdly insecure. Goes from being likeable and relatable in the first book to completely annoying in this one. I never write bad reviews, but I can safely say I would not have finished this book if I didn't spend a precious credit on it.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Not King's best but still great
Revisado: 07-12-20
As King calls it, I am a "constant reader" have been for 30 years. No one writes with the depth of character or understanding of human nature and the plight of the common person as King so expertly does.
While this story may be lacking some of his usual depth, it still has a fantastic original plot and believable characters (I served in the military.) Good fantasy/drama to distract from our worlds current struggles.
Don't let mediocre reviews discourage you, this book is worth a summer "listen" and worth your precious credit.
