Historia
In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

History worth knowing. Answers many questions, and makes you reflect on decisions made during war-time conflicts. Extremely well written and researched.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-29-25
The summary was intriguing, but the actual story was disappointing. It is beautifully written, but to have a compelling story, it needs more than just beautiful sentences.

Parnassus on Wheels is the story of a marvelous man, small in stature, wiry as a cat, yet Olympic in personality. Roger Mifflin is part pixie, part sage, part noble savage, and all God's creature. With his traveling book wagon, named Parnassus, he moves through the New England countryside of 1915 on an itinerant mission of enlightenment. Mifflin's delight in books and authors is infectious. With his singular philosophy and bright eyes, he comes to represent the heart and soul of the book world.

Historia
In the early 20th century over 200 of New York's most glamorous socialites joined the suffrage movement. Their names - Astor, Belmont, Rockefeller, Tiffany, Vanderbilt, Whitney, and the like - carried enormous public value. These women were the media darlings of their day because of the extravagance of their costume balls and the opulence of the French couture clothes, and they leveraged their social celebrity for political power, turning women's right to vote into a fashionable cause.

Iinformative
Revisado: 05-04-24
I was intrigued to learn about the suffrage movement from the point of view we rarely hear, the socialites. I had no idea that so many women of the upper class helped get the movement the recognition it deserved.

While most of us might take dictionaries for granted, the process of writing them is in fact as lively and dynamic as language itself. With sharp wit and irreverence, Kory Stamper cracks open the complex, obsessive world of lexicography - from the agonizing decisions about what and how to define to the knotty questions of usage in an ever-changing language.

Very Breif Overview
Revisado: 01-19-24
This was a very brief overview of the presidents. There were some interesting facts, most of the facts were unimportant but entertaining. I did not like the narration. The narrator talks to the listener as if they were a child, or as if only small children would be listening to this book.

Wow! What a great wealth of information! This really helped me identify and understand my parents, upbringing, and myself better. I would suggest taking in the information slowly. I listened to this book too quickly. It brought back many memories of my childhood and my parents, and it overwhelmed be a bit, so definitely take this one slow....I am actually going to listen to it again over a longer period of time.
Worth the purchase!

Love!!
Revisado: 09-25-22
I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this title. The narration was perfect. The story was carefully thought out and considerate. I relate to the main character on many levels due to my own upbringing, and I appreciated how the author handled difficult subjects in a very gentle manner. Beautiful! I will definitely listen to this more than once.
