Historia
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Story is a slog
Revisado: 09-11-24
The story didn't draw me in and I really didn't care about the characters.
I spent hours on a car drive listening the long, drawn-out setup and finally got fed up and skipped to the end of the book to find out what happened. While I will give the author credit for a creative twist, I frankly didn't care for any of the protagonists and the antagonist's outcome was meh to me.

As Desmond Shum was growing up impoverished in China, he vowed his life would be different. Through hard work and sheer tenacity he earned an American college degree and returned to his native country to establish himself in business. There, he met his future wife, the highly intelligent and equally ambitious Whitney Duan who was determined to make her mark within China’s male-dominated society. Very important book
Revisado: 11-21-21
The trajectory of China as an inevitable world dominating juggernaut seems to be the overriding narrative. Obviously they will be a huge power but this inside look reveals rotten underbelly the cultural conventions of guan xi. The Chinese Communist Party has more in common with the Cosa Nostra than a highly functioning government. The epidemic of prominent Chinese who have disappeared is a testament to that. Historia
Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

interesting but slow
Revisado: 10-02-19
Leonardo daVinci was clearly a very interesting man. However, unlike Walter Isaacson's other books this one read less like a story. Instead, it was half art history and half moderately interesting biography.

Historia
Bill, the “Nameless Detective”, and his wife, Kerry, were in the Sierra foothills, just outside of Six Pines, falling in love with a cabin. It was all perfect, until Kerry went missing. They’d seen Balfour at breakfast at the diner and Kerry remembered his name… PR people are like that. Which was unfortunate, because when she ran into him along the trail on that sunny afternoon and called him by name, he panicked. And that’s when Bill’s nightmare began.

Not very engaging
Revisado: 03-11-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who likes dark, unlikable protaganists.
Did Nick Sullivan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes. They were all very distasteful in very different ways.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The storytelling by the narrator was adequate.
Any additional comments?
There were 2 main issues I had with this book. First, the protaganist was so unlikable that I didn't feel compelled to get past the first quarter of the book. Second, the prose seemed to really drag. Overall, it was a very depressing read/listen.
