Magic it is.
Revisado: 06-15-23
The emphasis on magic mixed in with everyday life (well almost) made for a fun, enthralling read. Liked that it was about magic rather than a fantasy book where you delve into complete new worlds, though those are fun too. It’s a book where once you begin you’re in it’s thrall no matter the time of day....or night it may be!
The narrator’s voice and accents really helped draw you into the story and added depth to this audible book.
Hope there are more novels coming soon from this author.

Historia
I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

A revival of high school romances and jealousies in a magic academy.
Revisado: 03-24-23
Hoped this would be a fantasy/magical novel, unfortunately it’s just a retread of the tired old story of the ugliness of high school kids toward each other though shrouded as drama at a an Academy of magic. Begins with a bit of promise but rapidly descends into teenaged twin girls (alleged rightful heirs to the throne) letting their hormones go wild for the cool guys ( the guys who had until twins arrived believed that they would rule ). Kept hoping it would improve but ended up feeling I’d wasted my time.

Great story but…
Revisado: 02-05-23
Narrator’s voice had a tone that was slick and slightly creepy- making me picture an unsavory salesman. Initially wasn’t even sure he was on the side of the good guys. It continued to distract me throughout the book-wish I’d read the book rather than listening to it, because like most of Thomas Perry’s novels they are intricate, enthralling stories.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Lots of fun!
Revisado: 01-13-23
Witches have very strict rules about never being in each others company much less living together as a family. A rule that is seriously adhered to and enforced. Mika a lonely young adult witch, answers an online ad ‘Witch Needed’ where she discovers 3 child witches living together, breaking the cardinal rule of no witch or witches socializing regularly or worse yet living in the same household. The child witches are being cared for by an eccentric group of loving though non-magical caretakers and need a Witch to tutor the children - helping them to develop and control their magical skills a difficult and humorous task. Things get dicey and hijinks ensue when their never present guardian is required to show up in person by their solicitor to attend to legal matters. This book was well written and the narrator quite good. All in all a great escapist read. Hoping for further adventures with this crew!

Historia
For cynical 23-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.

The queer beach read!
Revisado: 07-08-21
Enjoyed this story of a young woman, August, falling in love and finding community. Both were things a cynical, bookish August thought were just not going to happen for her, were just for other people. Loved her circle of eclectic friends and co-workers that add in just the right amount of fun and spice to make this not only enjoyable but leaves one hoping for another August book. One small complaint, a thing that continually popped up and jerked me out of the story’s progression was the narrator’s continued mispronunciation of library as Li-Berry. Eeek would of thought editor’s would catch this.

Not a strong Burn.
Revisado: 06-05-21
Really wanted to like this book. Love reading mysteries that have strong female lead characters. But this novel was filled with prolonged passages of melodrama and for my taste too much ersatz phraseology. There was very little mystery to the mystery and It was all too clear ‘who done it’ 1/2 way thru book. Additionally there were little continuity things that just didn’t make sense- how Detective Betty after narrowly escaping with her life and being seriously burned in a fire couldn’t pick up her cell phone but her next action is to open a car door and hop in the passengers seat with a fellow detective!? The most difficult part of this book was the narrator’s attempted Texas accent which was even more difficult to hear when she was narrating the male characters.

Hoped for more
Revisado: 11-13-20
Starts with many interesting characters that could potentially become a nuanced interesting story. However this becomes a novel of excruciating depths of self doubt, mired in self loathing as the main character, Ivy, grows up and makes her way in the world. Difficult to read the unrelenting desire and expectation to be given everything without giving anything of one’s self. Many opportunities In the narrative where there could have been an inflection point and Ivy could gained some insight and you think possibly make a change (plz) or get a clue, only to shortly thereafter see her revert to her (crazy) never ending self absorption.

Unexpectedly enthralling
Revisado: 06-25-20
I did not suspect most of the turns in this amusing, twisted story of a French translator’s windfall. While she goes about her day to day routine of work then visiting her thankless mother in the nursing home she realizes she that bit by bit she’d come upon information that can totally change her life.
