not my favorite in the series
Revisado: 06-15-14
the switch in narrators surprisingly bothered me quite a bit. this third installment wasn't bad but it did feel rushed and was a bit predictable. truly enjoyed the first two books in the series more.

Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

I think I wanted more from this, though, I most certainly learned some things. There are several truly funny parts. Overall, a decent read.

Historia
> The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

really wanted to love it
Revisado: 07-07-12
Historical fiction is something I truly enjoy and I really wanted to love this book the way others have. Personally, I never grew to like the main character Cora much, though she wasn't as frustrating in the final chapters.
I also didn't care much for Louise, her young charge. At the moment I believe it was meant for the reader to finally understand Louise & see her differently, I only felt pity.
The story is interesting, though felt a bit thin. The writing is enjoyable but I just wasn't carried away to New York City in the 20's as I had hoped.
Ms. McGovern was a pleasure to listen to.

Why? Why would you switch narrators?!
Revisado: 04-30-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book, yes. This version? No.
What aspect of Annabella Sciorra and Adriana Trigiani ’s performance would you have changed?
Annabella Sciorra is a fantastic narrator! Now that the narration has changed to Ms. Trigiani, I'm unsure if I can finish it...such an odd and bad choice.
Any additional comments?
It makes ABSOLUTELY NO sense whatsoever to change narrators in any book, and the fact that this narration change is from a very good one to one that is, in my opinion, nails on a chalkboard, I am far from pleased. Until Ms. Trigiani took over, this book was on track to be one of my favorites on Audible. Now, I cannot recommend it.
