Fantastic!!!
Revisado: 02-20-25
I started this book and didn’t get into it initially so I stopped listening. When I went back and tried again I was hooked about 15 minutes in. I originally thought it was a historical fiction. It’s anything but! I love high fantasy and this book is a great story meticulously told and well narrated.

Horrendous melodramatic narration.
Revisado: 09-22-24
The narrator takes dramatic pauses every sentence. Hard to get through, I just couldn’t finish. Too melodramatic for me. I have no idea if the story is good or bad the narrator ran me off.

A rolling start to a great trilogy.
Revisado: 05-29-24
I waited to review any book of the trilogy ‘till I listened to them all.
Great character development throughout, the characters are quite compelling and each could stand on their own. The story pulls you in and allows you to feel what the characters feel.
The story is well thought out and although at times things might seem to be going in a “cookie cutter/problem=instant solution” direction there is almost always a twist that instantly reminds you that the solutions aren’t so laid bare.
The narrator is quite good and creates very distinctive characters through his voice. Very well done.
Looking forward to listening to the other books by Gwynne.

An attempt to understand what, why, and how.
Revisado: 02-04-23
Those of you who review or read this with a bias, that’s ok. We all have inherent biases from multiple sources. For this, we must make a serious attempt to overcome some of those built in ideas just for a bit, then we can actually come to an informed conclusion as to what happened at the United States Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. This incident which had and still has many competing narratives.
However, you have got to go above and beyond, get a little uncomfortable for a bit, bring back your critical thinking skills, and do your best to determine without prejudice or malice, based solely on the evidence, your own cognitive abilities, and the law, what is the case? Is there a case? Is it blatant lies? Is it a giant temper tantrum, or quite possibly caused by temper tantrums? Is it completely biased? etc.
Investigate for yourselves what reportedly took place and how did those in charge react? Properly within the confines of their Oath of Office, or not?
Take for example the D.C. police said on the day after the riot that Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennisaw, Georgia, suffered a “medical emergency.” The New York Times reported on Jan. 15 that Boyland died “in a crush of fellow rioters during their attempt to fight through a police line, according to videos reviewed by The Times.” That narrative was furthered by prosecutors pressing criminal cases against some of the rioters who said that as rioters clashed with police, Boyland “was dying after being trampled by the mob.”
But a month later, the D.C. medical examiner’s office released its conclusion that Boyland had died accidentally of “acute amphetamine intoxication.” According to the Washington Post, “The drug cited in Boyland’s death is addictive and can be prescribed to treat attention-deficit disorder and narcolepsy.” In short, Boyland was a tweaker. The heart giveth, and the heart taketh away, (quite often when tweaking.)
This is, I feel, one of our final “Wake up calls,” in the U.S.A.
Friends, citizens, Americans, it is time to bury Trump and all of his spineless enablers, not praise him.
After this giant critical thinking exercise, and all of the evidence, it is time for you decide what happened, who acted within their sworn oaths to the United States of America, to “Uphold and Defend the Constitution From Enemies Both Foreign and Domestic,” and who did not. Keep your conclusión to yourself and use that and other things you learn as you go to become more informed and outright better voters by understanding the issues and standing up for what is right. That, my friends, is the key to the future.
Peace and Grace to you all.
