It Is An Incredible Story Filled With Detailed History
Revisado: 01-25-25
I appreciated learning about the enormous job the protection of government figures and their loved ones took and continues to take. In addition, the story wove a refresher on history throughout it which corrected some of my history class misconceptions from high school and college classes in my past.

I liked how determined Bobby was to find his mother’s killer. However, it was frustrating as a reader when he put himself in danger. It was a page turner. I enjoyed the ending the most.

Historia
In 2015, Barbara Lipska - a leading expert on the neuroscience of mental illness - was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to her brain. Within months, her frontal lobe, the seat of cognition, began shutting down. She descended into madness, exhibiting dementia- and schizophrenia-like symptoms that terrified her family and coworkers. But miraculously, the immunotherapy her doctors had prescribed worked quickly. Just eight weeks after her nightmare began, Lipska returned to normal. With one difference: she remembered her brush with madness with exquisite clarity.

Historia
In May 1996, two skilled backcountry leaders, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, entered Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park for a week-long backcountry camping trip. The free-spirited and remarkable young couple had met and fallen in love the previous summer while working at a world-renowned outdoor program for women. During their final days in the park, they descended the narrow remnants of a trail and pitched their tent in a hidden spot. After the pair didn’t return home as planned, park rangers found a scene of horror at their campsite.

Enlightening, Terrifying, and a Letdown
Revisado: 10-15-23
This book taught me so many things I didn’t know. Before this book, I thought the only thing I had to worry about about in national parks was the wildlife. I was angered by the mishandling of the crime scenes and evidence that could have (if done correctly) led to the conviction of the real perpetrators and saved the lives of other victims. I appreciate the factual telling of the stories and the descriptions of the toll on the investigators, their families, and the families of the victims. The accuracy of the interviews with law enforcement did not paint them in a good light. I am so sad that those who did not do their jobs correctly have discredited the majority of law enforcement that would be enraged at their behavior. I had hoped the end would provide a resolution instead frustration and open possibilities. Maybe that was the point - feeling frustrated and still looking for answers like the families.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
