protagonist sounded more like scheming bad guy than reluctant hero, otherwise a pretty good listen. I love Stockard Channing in pretty much anything.

The storyline was pretty good; I haven't read the novel so don't know if the "Aliens" cut scenes are a part of the original story or just added for dramatic effect... but the addition gave a nice time-consuming frame of reference.
Some of the voice acting was stunted or oddly cadenced; I can't tell if it was due to "Brits pretending to be American" or just interpretation of "this is how I am supposed to feel right now." That being said, Colin Salmon could read me Webster's Dictionary and I'd be enthralled ;)
Unexpectedly gut punched at the end, bravo to the director and composer for how the scene played out.

This is more "radio play" than traditional narrated "audio book." thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been a huge fan of the Xenoverse since first seeing Alien in 1981. Out of the Shadows is an excellent moment in time between Alien and Aliens without much discontinuity. Excellent vocal performances all around, but Laurel Lefkow was a dead ringer for Ripley! I actually had Aliens dreams after the first day of listening. Well done! Hoping Sea of Sorrows and River of Pain get similar treatments

As I'm delving more into audio books I'm realizing I should probably avoid books I've read several times. The Black Jewels trilogy are books I've read a couple of times a year for several years. I found myself distracted by the reader's interpretation or inflection of certain lines (that's not how she'd say that, that's not a deep enough rumble for Saetan, etc). But overall it was acceptable and I still felt immersed in the world Bishop has created.
I will still listen to the rest of the trilogy with the hopes my imagined voices and the reader's voice become more aligned.

What did you love best about The Aeronaut's Windlass?

I love the character development, the Airship Battles were intense and breathtaking, and I love love LOVE the tender "incidental" moments and interactions between characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's difficult to pick a favorite because it really was an ensemble piece...

Any additional comments?

I generally listen to audiobooks after I've read them; to enrich and enhance the story experience. This is the first time I've listened to a book without first seeing words on paper (or screen). There were several moments where I missed reading the words; and hearing Euan Morton's interpretation of characters did influence some of how I mentally pictured the characters; but overall it was a fantastic book and definitely a gem from the mind and hand of Jim Butcher (without feeling like rehashed Dresden Files-esque storyline). The world is rich and imaginative and by the last 6 chapters I was constantly plugged into my phone listening. The illustration of Grimm's relationship to Predator brought a lump to my throat and made my heart swell - signature reaction to some of Butcher's finest Dresden Files moments. Eagerly awaiting Book 2 (and maybe for someone to take on the task of epic TV Series because the entire time I was listening I yearned to SEE the magnificent airships and majestic Spires ~cough~ Netflix ~cough~ HBO)
