Historia
Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic. The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet. Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....

Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

there was a lovely day humor to it. Fillion was perfect for this.
Revisado: 09-02-24
Unlike other books that allude or wink at to literary peers, this shamelessly references and quotes them. The middle gets a little tedious, but like the first half of 2001, that's the point of it. If you understood nothing of Ghost in the Shell's philosophical side, this might not be the book for you, but if you do, it's an interesting journey.

Historia
The people of Earth now know that the human Colonial Union has kept them ignorant of the dangerous universe around them. For generations the CU had defended humanity against hostile aliens, deliberately keeping Earth an ignorant backwater and a source of military recruits. Now the CU’s secrets are known to all. Other alien races have come on the scene and formed a new alliance - an alliance against the Colonial Union. And they’ve invited the people of Earth to join them. For a shaken and betrayed Earth, the choice isn't obvious or easy.

Finally, some fun bits
Revisado: 04-25-24
I learned of John Scalzi from his light-hearted books, like Redshirts, Agent to the Stars, KPS and Starter Villain. The Old Mans War books were a fair bit heavier. Definitely good books, but more for grown-ups. This book "feels" like the reward for making it through those books, to get some comic relief. Still some heavy matter, but also a touch of (dad/parent) humor here and there. Definitely going to continue with this series.

A very fun, interesting, adventurous novel. Not too long, not too short, just a fun loten. Scalzi's and Wheaton's styles combine well.

It has been 40 years since the publication of this classic science-fiction novel that changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves. From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man adventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

Great book, can't wait for 2010
Revisado: 02-26-23
I'm halfway through 2001 and was already looking for 2010, but it seems there is no (good) performance of that book (yet?).
There is a very old spoken book, but it is of significantly lesser quality.
I hope Brilliance will pick up 2010 as well.
OK, enough whining about what is (not) to come, back to the book itself.
The performance is very good, with an accent that is reminiscent of 60's television.
There is not too much "performance", allowing you sit sit back and enjoy the book, without being distracted by the performance.
The story is as good as I hoped it would be, taking the time to explain more about the background story of each of the characters, doing this in the film would have made it even longer ;-).
As I write this, the story is getting to the AE-35 unit, so I will go back to listening to the book...

It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

great story, bit short for the price
Revisado: 12-26-22
Like love, death & robots, this takes exactly as long as it needs to tell its story, without being hurried or long-winded.
It is witty, funny, has an interesting plot, and just high-tech enough to be sci-fi, but not so much that it requires a lot of explaining.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

A very enjoyable listen
Revisado: 11-08-22
The book itself is a very enjoyable story with an interesting storyline. Kind of like "love, death and robots, the story takes as long as it needs, but no longer. Personally, I would have preferred an anthology deal, but that does not make the book itself any less good.
The reader is clear, with just the right amount of emotion and a good sense of pacing.
The audio quality itself could possibly have a bit more clarity, but it is definitely good enough for a comfortable listen.
The current quality makes for easy listening, without *forcing* you to pay attention, making for a fun, relaxing experience.
