Historia
Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

Woke Shakespeare Myth buster
Revisado: 12-29-24
Interesting storyline but too much peripheral, political grandstanding. Novels work best when readers are allowed to think for themselves instead of being lectured on what they should think of the story presented by the author.

Historia
Elegant and ambitious, Cornelia embodies the essence of the perfect Roman wife. She lives to one day see her loyal husband as Emperor. Her sister Marcella is more aloof, content to witness history rather than make it. But when a bloody coup turns their world upside-down, both women must maneuver carefully just to stay alive.

Not well researched nor historically accurate
Revisado: 10-07-24
I like historical fiction because I can learn a bit while enjoying a story. However, the author makes it pretty obvious that she did not research the topic and instead just set a story in a stereotype For example she repeatedly discusses a "vomitorium" as a place where Romans went to purge during feasts. It's actually an architectural egress that allows large buildings to be emptied efficiently. The author's mis-definition is is a modern misconception that a simple Google search would have cleared up for the author. Another sloppy moment is the failure to understand that if races are fixed, and broadly known to be fixed, there would not be a bookmaking opportunity; no one would take a bet on a fixed race. All in all, a pleasant book, but I expect historical fiction to be roughly accurate. With accuracy issues this basic and easily researched, I'm not sure that the complexities across the ages could have been adequately expressed by this author. I had previously read and enjoyed many of her titles, but won't waste my time again on an author that doesn't value historical accuracy. Now I'm off to find an accurate account of the year of four emperors.

Historia
25 BC. Titus Cervianus is no ordinary soldier. A former surgeon from the city of Ancyra, he's now a capsarius—a combat medic. Cervianus is a pragmatist, a scientist and truly unpopular with his legion. The Twenty Second Deiotariana have been sent to deal with uprisings and chaos in Egypt. Yet the Twenty Second is no ordinary legion either. Founded as the private royal army of one of Rome's most devoted allies, the king of Galatia, their ways are not the same as the other legions, a factor that sets them apart and causes friction with their fellow soldiers.

I don’t do books with cliffhangers. I love series, but the conflict should be resolution each story. This book was short and incomplete.

Loved the Book Thief. This, not so much. Confusing. Sad. I still don’t understand why the characters behaved as they did.
