Duffy ❤️
Revisado: 01-15-25
I’ve had 3 Shelties. I know they only live a short life compared to us but the sadness is powerful. I have Ollie now, a black & white 6 yr old, when he dies I’ll cry for him like I’m crying for Duffy now.

Historia
Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women—his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret.

Repetitive

The dialogue changed slightly from each character but not enough to keep it interesting. Boring love scenes. Mentions of chess were sporadic sometimes.

The male voices
Revisado: 08-20-24
The narrator should not do male voices! The main love interest sounds like a lounge lizard. All male voices sound like that but he’s the worst. It’s distracts you from the story.

Not about surfing
Revisado: 08-17-24
I thought this book was about the women in the surfing life & that lifestyle in general, but there was very little of that theme. It was mostly about one woman & how beautiful she was. The story became how she made a lot of $ in promoting & endorsing various products. Making it big in Malibu, all of Cali & the US, The ins and outs of her family history, relationships, marriages & friendships. All of that is fine if that was the story you wanted to read.

Poignant memoir
Revisado: 04-30-24
Life is not necessarily easy or happy but most people pretend. Pretend that they don’t have anxiety, depression, sadness etc. I speak from experience. My dog gives me unconditional love, I live in the Pacific Northwest. Sell my suburban house & take care of the many details. The idea of living in an undeveloped, beautiful area with a bunch of dogs sounds heavenly.

Historia
A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the Pursuit of Happiness in America set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are.

Great narrator
Revisado: 12-22-23
Finally an adult female narrator that doesn’t sound like a child! A chirpy adult child that’s loathsome to hear read a serious novel. The story is about careers, relationships, looking back over life choices good & bad & looking forward when the future isn’t what you expected.

Historia
Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe.

This was a story?
Revisado: 11-10-23
Am I missing something? Like a plot? An idea? This audiobook rambled on w/ no discernible point. Maybe it was supposed to be apocalyptic or a message about climate change or about how strangers do or don’t establish relationships when put together. About halfway through I figured something had to be coming, how could a book be so empty & meaningless? I can’t even make fun of it……
