CRINGE
Revisado: 12-14-24
Dreadful story where "the little woman" needs to be rescued by her wonderful husband who then pats her on her head and praises her kind heart even though she wasn't able to get the task completed without his stepping in. Total waste of money!

Historia
In the land of moss, magnolias, and bayous, ghost stories suffuse the landscape like mist on a moonlit swamp. Swamp ghosts, hot-tempered villains and tricksters once lived there, and live on today in such blood-chilling stories as the six in this collection.

Wonderful for Halloween
Revisado: 07-28-22
I used J.J.Reneaux recordings telling "ghost" stories for many years around Halloween in my classroom. My students ( 2nd and 3rd graders ) always were completely engrossed in the story and their own writing became much livelier and more imaginative after listening to J.J.Reneaux. She truly was one of the all time great story tellers.
It's unfortunate that she wasn't the narrator for "Why Alligator Hates Dog". Whoever reads that tale ruins it with the bland, matter-of-fact delivery.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Story destroyed by narrator
Revisado: 08-01-20
Moennig read the book like a throwback to Dragnet!
I gave it an hour, hoping I could adjust to the choppy, flat, drone of her delivery.
I failed and will get this title from the local library and read it because I do enjoy Connelly.
Don't waste a credit on this one.
And please, Audible, don't ever use Katherine Moennig again.
