Historia
After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move. Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals.

couldn’t finish
Revisado: 04-23-22
since book 1 this series has gotten progressively more boring, i had to stop halfway through this book. everything that was exciting in the first book has already been resolved, now it’s just politics, espionage, and the two main characters moaning about their issues. like idk if the author was trying to make a statement or something about mental health, but it’s a bit too much. kal is just acting like a moody idiot, shallan is “going crazy” but not really, and both of them are being seriously annoying. i can’t see where this story is going, and i don’t really want to find out.

fantastic!
Revisado: 04-23-22
This is the best second book of any series i’ve ever read (listened to?). It takes the existing story to all new levels, with exciting and unpredictable twists and satisfying character development. The disparate POV’s of the first book start to come together and interact. You begin to see how the many threads of this story weave together to create a single masterpiece. Like with the first book, the last few chapters feel like the crescendo that the story has been building to- the story arcs solidify, and the stage is set for the next book. You’re left both satisfied and begging for more.
If you're tired of the sausage-fest that is mainstream fantasy, here is a series for you. Excellent and diverse cast of female characters who are actual independent players in the story. They each with their own unique personality and backstory, and are treated as equals by both the cast of characters and the writer himself. Really refreshing to see in a genre that has been so dominated by tolkien-esque elven princesses.
The narrator seems to have picked up his game as well, with a wider variety of character voices. Will have to listen to it over again, since I binged it in only a few days. Book three can’t come fast enough!

Historia
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them - not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain.

mostly confused
Revisado: 12-24-21
this is a YA novel, so I didn't have high expectations for the depth of the story. but this story isn't shallow, it just straight up does not make sense. i think the author was trying to be "creative" with the storyline but ended up getting too carried away in the details and forgot to make sure if it made sense as a whole.
i did like the setting and some of the characters

Historia
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

good story
Revisado: 10-04-21
the story is great, super different and never boring. this book is great because it has many diverse and well written women. two of the three main pov characters are women, as well as the majority of the side characters. the author treats them with the same amount of respect as any male character. this is great, except for the fact that the narrator almost completely undoes this amazing characterization by giving all of the women the same weak breathy voice. honestly really disappointing to listen to. it’s just bad acting because he’s completely ignoring the written vocal cues. if the text says "she screamed", the narrator decides that that means she whispers it like a half asleep marilyn monroe. also, if 2/3 of the main cast are women, why not have a female voice actor?
i still enjoyed listening to this audiobook because the writing makes up for the disappointing narration. buy this book in print!

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

the best
Revisado: 08-18-21
i absolutely loved this book, it’s really everything you could want out of a space story. it’s similar to The Martian, but so much more fun. the story is unique but still plausible, so it really feels immersive. this story is funny, intellectual, heartbreaking, and full of hidden discussions of the nature of life itself. the narration is amazing, complete with accents and unique voices for the characters. every part of this audiobook was great.
