Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Foster Children Relevant
Revisado: 09-18-22
As a volunteer Guardian ad Litem who sees the reality in this opinion play out on a daily basis in the children for whom I advocate I highly recommend this book. Individuals involved in child welfare should understand these facts.

Child Abuse. Learn all you can.
Revisado: 03-29-19
There are so many twists and turns to the abuse children experience. This is a great example of how some parent's absolutely fail to protect their children. One bad decision and one unprotected night have adversely impacted this child's entire life forever. A must read for Guardians Ad Litem's and CASA's.

A Chance in the World is the unbelievably true story of a wounded and broken boy destined to become a man of resilience, determination, and vision. Through it all, Steve’s story teaches us that no matter how broken our past, no matter how great our misfortunes, we have it in us to create a new beginning and to build a place where love awaits.

A critical read for Guardian Ad Litem and CASA's.
Revisado: 03-11-19
If Steve had been assigned a Casa or Guardian Ad Litem we could have pushed and advocated for him. (Perhaps his life experience preceeded those programs.)He would have been rescued from his his horrific foster care experience much, much, much earlier.
This should be mandatory reading for training programs for the aforementioned program participants.
