Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Complete drivel.
Revisado: 01-12-22
As a historian, this book is filled with complete drivel. I could hardly get through it without shaking my head and saying how incredibly misleading this book is.

Historia
This clearly written and engrossing book presents a global narrative of the origins of the modern world from 1400 to the present. Unlike most studies, which assume that the "rise of the West" is the story of the coming of the modern world, this history, drawing upon new scholarship on Asia, Africa, and the New World, constructs a story in which those parts of the world play major roles.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 02-26-20
The narrator you can hear the smacking of their lips which becomes annoying. The book itself does well for a non-Eurocentric narrative but downplays the achievements of Europe and the West too much. The whole narrative of the West being the worse while celebrating other cultures such as Islam for the exact same thing for conquest is hypocritical.

Historia
i>Imagined Communities, Benedict Anderson's brilliant book on nationalism, forged a new field of study when it first appeared in 1983. Since then it has sold over a quarter of a million copies and is widely considered the most important book on the subject. In this greatly anticipated revised edition, Anderson updates and elaborates on the core question: What makes people live and die for nations, as well as hate and kill in their names?

Heavy debatable theory
Revisado: 04-16-19
The theory is heavily abstract that pulls away from individual agency in history. It relies on national propaganda narratives to prove a point that is not necessarily true on the individual level. Although nationalism can be seen as a modern phenomenon, the boundaries which communities from tribal to empire has always been set. Racism is not modern either because human beings have always categorize "the other" and dehumanize those they felt threaten by. These all have origins which are not accounted for.

Historia
In White Trash, Nancy Isenberg upends assumptions about America's supposedly class-free society. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early 19th century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ's Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty.

Horrible narrative on history
Revisado: 09-27-18
This book tries to tell a story without understanding the people it's trying to give a voice for. It criticize America and uses countries that are completely homogeneous and protected militarily by NATO. The US does not want to be Europe. This is a push of leftist narrative that is out of touch with real America.
