Ridiculous Plot

I felt like this was a waste if an Audible credit. The story made no sense.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-22-22
I thought the narrator did a fine job expressing the personality of each character. I found the story much too long… eager for it to end. The story itself lacked substance.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Refreshing story
Revisado: 03-27-22
I rarely write reviews, but I found this book to be delightful. It was refreshing to have an interesting but ingenuous protagonist as well as a bit of a new twist for a mystery. I enjoyed Lauren Ambrose’s voice and how she clearly conveyed different characters. I plan to look for more books she has narrated.

Too loose
Revisado: 02-13-20
I thought the story had too many loose ends, things that were a little off, things that didn’t seem to be logical. I like mysteries with no loose ends.

The narrator was exceptional

Pinchot imbued each individual with a fully formed personality through his range of nuanced accents that seemed perfect for each character. This added much to the basic story line.

Historia
On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual false alarm. As one fireman recounted later, “Once that first stack got going, it was good-bye, Charlie.” The fire was disastrous: It reached 2,000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed 400,000 books and damaged 700,000 more.

So disappointing
Revisado: 10-25-19
I was expecting an in depth story about the fire.....it starts out that way and then plods along with an encyclopedia of information about libraries in general. All told with the most monotonous, uninflected voice. I promised someone I would read this book and am absolutely forcing myself to listen.

Not a tight enough mystery
Revisado: 08-22-19
SERIOUS SPOILER ALERT:
I liked the suspense but in the end, the story was unsatisfying.
Too many unanswered questions, too unrealistic, odd behavior....there was not enough explanation as to the lure of killing unknown people; why was the husband such a pushover? Why didn't he ask his wife what she was doing if they were partners in the murders? Why was killing the first and only approach to dealing with problem people? Why did he let his son get away with blackmail? How did she go through so many years of marriage without once revealing her sadistic side so prevalent in earlier years? How could such thorough planners have not researched if Owen was still alive after 20 years? Wasn't her killing 5 women a little overkill for finding out he slept with two women, once each? The story left me with more questions than answers and it went on far too long.
There are too many unresolved points. Too many holes and loose ends.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.
