This was an interesting story for me. The prologue was extremely long, but it provided the needed back story for this short story. Enjoyed the two MCs and their interactions. I think this is my first Rowan Scott narration and really enjoyed their cadence to this story.

Tallus and Diem are back. About 6 weeks after the last book, this core of this story occurs. This story starts at the end and then begins the retelling of the recent past. Love how they get engaged in a new case. A case filled with many twists and turns to keep both the reader and the characters on their toes. There are multiple characters that the guys have to interact with to work through the case. All these characters add great value to the story. The romance between Diem and Tallus continues to grow. I love the evolution of their relationship throughout this story. There are a few other things that stick out. The dog, the clocks, and so much more. What a great story.

Updated for audio:
Just love Nick Russo's portrayal of these guys. He must get tired of doing the deeper voice for Diem. He did an excellent job of emphasizing the emotion in this story. You could feel the emotions. The audio was just as excellent as the read through.

Listened to Rayne Check first. It's a short story and quick listen to that I think does a great job of setting the scene for this one. It helps explain Everett's reaction to him. Was a good mix of second chance romance and a mystery of why Rayne is on the run. Michael Dean is great as always and brings these guys to life. I haven't read the rest of the Love in Mission City stories. Think it's about time for me to dive in.

I have powered through the 7 books in preparation for the 8th one coming in a couple months. I have read many of Nicky James' stories and these are a great example of both mystery and romance. Love that Quaid and Aislin finally tie the knot. This was one focused much more on the romance and less on the mystery but still loved it. Nick Russo is perfect for these guys. Looking forward to book 8!

This short story is a great intro to an interesting story for Rayne. I one night stand, could it lead to more? Really enjoyed the quick story. Michael Dean as always was great (with the exception that his Australian accent sounded more Irish.)

Looking forward to the rest of the Rayne tale.

A stop at a gas station changes the lives of Jack and Aaron. This is a sweet story of falling in love with both each other and the small town. Jack and family are a tight nit group that has overcome some loss. Aaron and his business partner see an opportunity. But is it worth the derailing a possibility of love. This was a enjoyable story and brought to life by the amazing Nick Russo. I absolutely loved his voice for this story.

Story:
Wow! Nicky James knows how to take you on an emotional ride. The second story within the Timber Creek Academy is a good example of this. Her ability to tell a story with such amazing detail is phenomenal. The way she describes both of these music lovers allows the reader to really feel their love and obsession. There were times I become frustrated with August, but I think that was meant as Niles has to overcome both his own and August's approach to a relationship. Love the inclusion of August's daughter and how that adds to the story. Lovely story all in all.

Audio:
HOLY COW!! Nick Russo's voice is lovely as is. But love the accent for August and even for Chloe. It brings so much to the story. I think I loved this story even more after listening to it. Nick Russo brings it up another level.

Story
If you are a mood reader, this is the story for you. There is heart wrenching sadness in this story. Koa has a secret that is locked behind a door so tight that it takes all he has to keep it locked. Jersey (love the name) is introduced as a young carefree boy that finds something unique and interesting in Koa. But as life happens, they are separated, and time goes by. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the present and looks back into the past, but it was perfect for this story. Koa is an intellectual and it comes out on the page, and Jersey well is not (me too, Jersey!). But their differences make them so wonderful. This was such a wonderful story. I have a feeling it will sit with me for days.

Audio:
Nick Russo does a wonderful job performing this story. His cadence is just perfect for this story.

Although this is a new series, there is so much connectivity to her other series. You don't need to have read the other series or book 0, but they will provide a lot of background to this world. (And not to mention they are so good.) Book 0, although part of another series, will especially help. All that being said, this story is very typical of Michele Notaro. Good world building, good storyline, and a cute matching of the two main characters. Michael Lesley is all about the voices and accompanying sounds. He creates a great distinction between Garrett and Tan. Love his growls, throat clearing, etc. Looking forward to the next story.
