Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Well-researched and skillfully weaves historical and current information into a coherent though worrisome narrative of potential nuclear conflict. Excellent read.

A Pleasant Surprise that Lingers
Revisado: 03-22-25
The book appears initially mundane but skillfully comes together. The early seemingly mundane elements all have a ultimately play a part in the story. Then it stays with the reader long after the end.

Historia
The Light Brigade: it’s what soldiers fighting the war against Mars call the ones who come back...different. Grunts in the corporate corps get busted down into light to travel to and from interplanetary battlefronts. Everyone is changed by what the corps must do in order to break them down into light. Those who survive learn to stick to the mission brief - no matter what actually happens during combat. Dietz, a fresh recruit in the infantry, begins to experience combat drops that don’t sync up with the platoon’s.

Fascinating Concept; Fails in Execution
Revisado: 03-22-25
What would happen to soldiers and warfare if we could teleport corporeal bodies? Sadly, this contrived work does not contribute to the answer. The science in this science fiction is unexplained, inconsistent, and arbitrary. What starts strong eventually falls apart with nonsensical world-building and the author using the story as a chance to preach strange unrelated political beliefs. These beliefs become more apparent when every soldier is somehow a woman and bisexual, and the world became mostly desert in 20 years. And the corporations are childishly evil.

Historia
The War on Warriors uncovers the deep roots of our dysfunction—a society that has forgotten the men who take risks, cut through red tape, and get their hands dirty. The only kind of men prepared to face the dangers that the Left pretends don’t exist. Unlike issues of education or taxes or crime, this problem doesn’t have a zip code solution. We can’t move away from it. We can’t avoid it. We have only one Pentagon. Either we take it back or surrender it altogether.

Revisado: 12-12-24
I admit I was skeptical at first given only superficial knowledge of Hegseth’s background, but this book was both easy to read and incredibly effective. It is like hearing from a sharp and straightforward NCO explaining the stark situation yet simple solution that’s staring you in the face.

Good Read for Leaders
Revisado: 11-13-24
Memorable anecdotes and lessons in leadership. Great attempt by the author to highlight commonalities between successful teams. However, some conclusions felt forced or disconnected from situations described - the J&J chapter comes to mind. This may have been due to adjusting for readability, and the book is very readable.

A Strange One
Revisado: 09-05-24
Honestly, the book left me questioning how this could have become a classic work of sci-fi. Main character is difficult to sympathize with, and the ‘science’ of the book, while imaginative, feels inconsistent. Was entertaining enough to pass the time, but didn’t land among the stars for me.
