Historia
Colombo, 1990. Maali Almeida—war photographer, gambler, and closet queen—has woken up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. His dismembered body is sinking in the serene Beira Lake and he has no idea who killed him. In a country where scores are settled by death squads, suicide bombers, and hired goons, the list of suspects is depressingly long, as the ghouls and ghosts with grudges who cluster round can attest. But even in the afterlife, time is running out for Maali.

Definitely written for those with powerful imaginations
Revisado: 03-26-25
It was beautifully written. I was immediately immersed in the story and stayed fully engaged all the way through the end. It captures the causalities of war, politics and capitalism without making you feel like it’s a history lesson. I was really impressed and it made wish the book was a part of a series.

Historia
They ran 1,000 miles to freedom and changed the country forever. The Vanishing Woman tells the true story of Ellen Craft, who escaped from slavery in 1848 by posing as a white man, while her husband William pretended to be her slave. They took trains and steamboats north, escaping in plain view. When other passengers looked at her, they saw only an ailing planter from Georgia. Ellen Craft had vanished. Ellen’s mother was a slave, but her father was her master, and she had skin as white as his. This enabled her to pose as a white man in one of the boldest escapes in American history. ...

Powerful story
Revisado: 02-02-25
The story was a triumph you literally feel like you’re in it with them but the virtual voice stumbles over certain words and made the songs sound awkward.

It’s the whole book for me
Revisado: 02-23-24
It was gripping from start to finish you immediately love the characters and fall into the story and the authors note at the end is chefs kiss. I will be buying the physical book to add to my collection ❤️
