Historia
It's been seven years since the Seattle Strangler terrorized the city. His victims were all young, pretty, their lifeless bodies found wrapped in a home-sewn white dress. But there was one who miraculously escaped death, just before the Strangler disappeared. Lara Church has only hazy memories of her long-ago attack. What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back....

So sexist
Revisado: 04-09-25
Is this really written by a woman? It’s so filled with misogyny. It seems to glorify the violence. It reifies asshole man behavior. Gross

Historia
In this first title of a new mystery series, Cornwell introduces us to a dynamic trio of crime solvers in Charlotte, North Carolina: Andy Brazil, an eager young reporter; Judy Hammer, the city's police chief; and Virginia West, Hammer's deputy and a genuine head turner. They're after a serial killer who pulls male out-of-towners from their rental cars and then mutilates, spray paints, and shoots them, in that order. What the trio uncovers jolts them like the sting of the hornet - Charlotte's symbol.

Really racist and transphobic
Revisado: 12-29-24
Repeatedly referred to trans characters as “it” or “the shehim”. Every Black character was a complete racist trope. Also, poor quality dialogue and droning

Historia
In a world of lies, one truth remains. Dead men tell no tales...When the body of an unidentified man is found at the foot of Sheringham cliffs with injuries inconsistent with a fall, DI Tom Janssen must piece together his final days to determine how he fell to his death...or who pushed him...The investigation quickly reveals a network of locals with ties to the victim, but as for the man himself...he remains something of a mystery. The dead man doesn't fit in; not with his social circle, not with his business interests, and when others come looking for him, the intrigue only deepens.

Interesting story but author’s handling of race isn’t good
Revisado: 05-24-24
The way they note the race only of the non white characters is annoying. Also, all Black people are either thugs or saintly old ladies while the characters without race identified (presumably white?) get much more nuanced characterizations.

The lead detective thinks there's a link between the two deaths, and he'll need Mack's help to sniff out the murderer. But when all the evidence points to her as the most likely culprit, it could be an early last call for Mack.

Revisado: 09-13-23
Uh. Girl falls in love with possessive asshole cop bc he makes her taste chocolate. She Fires good guy who may have had criminal record but he still saves her in the end. Gross. She behaves consistently like she’s dumb as a box of rocks but somehow stumbles into the answer.

Okay but a little racist
Revisado: 05-11-21
All of the characters of color seem either “simple” or devious. The story line of romance between will tent and Sarah was tedious.
