What story?
Revisado: 01-19-24
I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Steven King book, but I simply couldn’t listen anymore. The tough guy gangster types reminded me of High School plays - again, way over done. Sorry Stephen - not like you need my approval anyway. But for anyone else, I’ve “heard” a lot of King’s books and I’m usually blown away - in a good way.

A genius among writers. What an amazing story!!
Revisado: 10-19-23
Better said, James Lee Burke is THE GENIUS among writers. If there was ever a doubt, this wonderful book seals the deal,
Shortly after I become a fan of audio books, a few decades ago, I came across one of his early books and after “reading” it, began to look first, for a James Lee Burke before trying anything else. They (his audio books) wouldn’t be the same without the similar level of genius found in Will Patton. I’ve tried, a couple of times, to stay with a Burke audio book when Patton had not recorded it yet, and always found myself disappointed and unable to finish it. The combination of these two men, puts any other at a far second. Okay, maybe Stephen King reading his own books is in the same town, but not the same ballpark. I’m going to force myself to wait a couple of weeks before I listen to this one again!

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-31-23
Perhaps I should have listened beyond Chapter 6, but I couldn’t make myself do it. I have listened to a lot of CJ Box books, and loved them all. This one - not so much. I stayed with it, hoping for something positive to occur, but finally heard myself say, “If this was a ‘physical book’ that I was holding in my hands, I would have laid it done a couple of chapters ago and not picked it back up again.

From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

What a disappointment!
Revisado: 05-22-23
In a word …. BORING! I ordered this book because it was written and performed by Tom Hanks - the last person in the world I would expect such a Debbie Downer book/story from. I have about 350 books in my Audible library and only one other time was I as disappointed as this. Please tell me how I go about requesting a refund.

My favorite Nelson DeMille book so far
Revisado: 05-17-23
This book has it all. I’m in awe of his ability to tell a story that covers every aspect of human emotion, all the while keeping one guessing as to how he’s going “get him, or her, out of this one”. I often find Scott Brick, although an excellent narrator, overly dramatic and distracting - not so here. The drama works because the characters and story line are tremendously dramatic. It all works! I’ll be back for more!

In Gerrardsville, Colorado, a woman dies under the wheels of a moving bus. The death is ruled a suicide. But Jack Reacher saw what really happened: A man in a gray hoodie and jeans, moving stealthily, pushed the victim to her demise—before swiftly grabbing the dead woman’s purse and strolling away.

My last book narrated by Scott Brick
Revisado: 11-09-22
I have more than 350 audio books in my library, many of them narrated by Scott Brick. Clearly, my opinion means nothing unless a lot of other people feel the same way … his teeth-clinching, over-the-top, ridiculously dramatic (especially, angry dramatic) pronunciation of nearly every word he speaks, is both silly and irritating. If anyone reading this disagrees, please take another listen. The problem, for me, is that’s it’s distracting. I’m sticking with Will Patton as the best narrator of all time. His inflection is perfect. When listening to a book that he is narrating, I’m focused on the story, not the narrator. Many other narrators are skilled beyond the average reader. Take a listen Scott. I like the genre of books you narrate, and I’m sad to reach this point in my audible listening where I don’t listen to a good book because of the narrator.

Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

Each of the 4 books in this “Tucker Series” were well thought out ... in a way that most series books are not. The character development was outstanding - from the introduction of new characters to significant changes in those who spanned two or more books. Here’s hoping for a Book #5 soon!
