Great thriller from Jack Carr. Incredible performance from Ray Porter! Believable and scarily realistic, the terminology and vocabulary make this one very tough to put down!

Both the book and the performance are absolutely perfect. An excellent, brutally honest look into SOG in Vietnam and Laos. The incredible feats of these men and their montanyards and their Chinese nung. It’s amazing that any of them ever survived. My respect for these men boils over.

I have recently confirmed that I have Native American heritage, close to the Lakota, I am Blackfoot. This has helped me connect mentally with Native American heritage in general, and it has helped me connect to grandmother earth on a higher level. Written as if he is sitting down talking to you over a cup of coffee, this book feels really personal. Five stars, this is the third book of Joseph M Marshall III’s that I have read, and I can’t wait to read the rest

Joseph M. Marshall III does an amazing job at story telling and keeping the way of the Lakota alive, and telling the most accurate portrayal of Crazy Horse yet. Yes he was an amazing warrior and leader, but he was also a man, and Joe does a wonderful job making him a relatable person who has the same feelings as you and I. It helped me get in touch with my spiritual side as well. A wonderfully written book and excellent performance

This book is great for telling a quick history of the Blackfoot nation, it’s great for helping to understand what people went through, good and bad. Everyone in the country should read this to understand some of the incredible injustices that were committed in our country‘s history

Gary is a total badass. As a former Ranger, we heard stories of the revered Gary O’Neal for years and finally after hearing his story, I completely understand how he feels about the world. He left the life of things we only see in movies, but he actually did it in real life. This book is a must listen/read. Also David does an incredible job performing while reading this unreal story

The Marines in this book are well worth learning about, and if you have been there and understand it, this book is an awesome portrayal of their brutality against AQI, whilst winning the hearts and minds of the locals with COIN. They were the turning point to the region, ridding it of AQI, outsmarting them at every corner. The trials and tribulations of losing comrades and having to push through that is portrayed very well here, and and pays tribute to their service. This book is a must read if you wish to understand what our boys went through in one of the toughest deployments in the war on terror’s history.
