Sweet story, but struggled with the narration

The story was super cheesy and mostly predictable, but I really enjoyed it. I really liked the character development and love story. The characters felt like dear friends, which is my favorite part of stories like this. However, the narration was really difficult for me. Every word was slow and overly enunciated in a way that felt really unnatural. I sped it up, 1.2 to 1.3x and that helped. I would have preferred a different narrator, but I was still able to enjoy the extremely adorable story.

A powerful take about the complexities of domestic violence

The author's vulnerability and sincerity show deeply as she shares Lily with us, a girl who grew up in a home with domestic violence and then finds herself in a violent relationship as an adult. The love, hurt, and complexities are layed out in a beautiful way as she falls in love, experiences trauma, analyzes it, heals, finds inner strength, but also struggles through her decisions. This is a story that you won't soon forget.

Great characters and fun to read

I loved the story and am so sad it is over! The character development was well done and I loved seeing how the the characters grew together. The plot has been done before, but this one was done really really well. I recommend it.

Different from Harper's other books, but lovely

This book stands out from all of Harper's other books in the kind of plot, problems the characters face, and the general pace. It was a bit slower and more gentle, but also hit some serious and tough notes. As a woman who has wondered if she is on the autism spectrum, there were some parts that I related to, and some were tricky to read. Others parts felt a little too stiff in how they were narrated, but maybe they will feel more accurate for someone else. I can see how this book may not be for everyone, as those who don't relate to either character may find it a tad slow in some parts, but I really appreciate that Harper wrote it and put herself out there, as it helped me. The vulnerability and sincerity in this book are really touching and so lovely!

The character development in this book was excellent. You manage to both like and dislike Evelyn Hugo throughout the book, but thr adventure she takes you on is captivating. I highly recommend this book!

I loved the main character

Eleanor is so awkward and loveable! I really enjoyed getting to know her character and was cheering her on throughout the book! The story had a decent number of unexpected twists and left me wanting more.

Humorous and Enjoyable

Story may be good, but performance poor

I love Jodi Picoult and was excited for this book, but the narrator didn't identify when she was switching characters or leave a big enough pause to show that she was switching characters. This made the whole story become jumbled. I really tried to follow it, but just couldn't. This book ended up being a big bummer for me.
