Stick with it for a thoughtful ending
Revisado: 01-13-22
Started this audiobook and got bored but came back to it and was glad I did. I have never read a book about WWII from the prospective of this protagonist and know nothing about the Kabbalah. Rolled my eyes over how much sex a young girl was having in the 1930s but put that down to a male author. What stuck with me was the theme of how we can impact the lives of others by action and inaction. Great narration, good story. Not an easy book but if you like books that make you think this is a credit-worthy opportunity to think and to learn about life in 1930s Germany.

Historia
When life throws her one setback too many, midwife and young widow Tess Hartsong takes off for Runaway Mountain. In this small town high in the Tennessee mountains, surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her heartbreak and find the solace she needs to heal. Always hate for SEP books to end. This one is no exception. I have all of her books in my library and enjoy re-listening to them on road trips. Got a friend hooked on her books that way! Buy this and enjoy.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

If you hate the narrator, you don't get it
Revisado: 10-21-10
Wow. First time I have written a review. This book is one of the best books I have ever listened to and well worth my monthly credit. You don't need the narrator to have different voices for each character - the characters come through the words. I could tell by the language style which character was speaking. The book was beautifully written and had an excellent story.
