The Banished Prince has returned to seize power, his rise to the dragon throne aided by the mass poisonings that have kept the people bound in fear and distrust. Ning, a young but powerful shénnóng-shi—a wielder of magic using the ancient and delicate art of tea-making—has escorted Princess Zhen into exile. Joining them is the princess' loyal bodyguard, Ruyi, and Ning's newly healed sister, Shu.

Glitches in Chapters 16 & 36
Revisado: 09-07-22
I found it much easier to read it in print since there are so many characters. I appreciate the narrators being able to pronounce the Chinese words correctly. However, I found the male narrator’s performance rather bland. Not bad. Just a little monotonous, which made it hard to pay attention. The female narrator was more dynamic but her nasal voice suits a villain or old woman better than a young girl like Ning. There were patchy audio segments in chapters 16 and 36. Will probably return the book. I prefer to read it in print. The narrator for book 1 holds my attention better.

A Chinese Xianxia Drama
Revisado: 07-06-22
The story of how an innocent girl, in order to survive and free her mother, had to hide the truth of her parentage from those she formed a bond with and serve the enemy court she despised.
The conflict of shame, loyalty, personal goal, being hardened or remaining good, are decisions she grappled with constantly as the stakes increased. But if you don’t like lots of character conflicts and contemplations, you may not like it. There are celestial dragons, quests, enchantments, teacher-student relationships, military camaraderie, sword fights, archery, enchanted weapons, battle strategies, court politics, manipulation, betrayal, sacrifice, loyalty, honour, hate and love, though the context is heavier on the developing ‘love triangle’.
If you like Chinese fantasy (Xianxia) dramas like Eternal Love, you will appreciate the tale as the world building is vivid and well-explained. The prose is lyrical though the author has favourite words she uses more often than I would have liked. The narrator is also very good at dramatising, though at first I found it a little too dramatic at times. But I quickly got used to her voice acting and enjoyed the story.

Historia
For generations, deadly storms have ravaged Mina's homeland. Her people believe the Sea God, once their protector, now curse them with death and despair. To appease him, each year a maiden is thrown into the sea, in the hopes that one day the 'true bride' will be chosen and end the suffering. Many believe Shim Cheong - Mina's brother's beloved - to be the legendary true bride. But on the night Cheong is sacrificed, Mina's brother follows her, even knowing that to interfere is a death sentence. To save her brother, Mina throws herself into the water in Cheong's stead.

Beautifully Written
Revisado: 07-03-22
The tale has friendship, romance, family, loyalty and an absolutely breathtaking and atmospheric, sensory world building. If you like Spirited Away, you’ll love this. The narrator has a nice voice and is a competent reader, but lacks the ability to change her voice to depict each character. However, I still enjoyed listening to it and will listen again.

Love the two narrators
Revisado: 06-27-22
Both the narrators capture the Kane siblings’ voices and personalities so well! It was a brilliant choice to have a male and female to narrate the switch in POV, especially one with American and the other with British accent, since that is exactly what is portrayed of the Kane siblings raised apart. Both narrators could change their voices and accents to portray different characters. Very enjoyable!

Where are the vocal exercises?
Revisado: 06-11-21
Roger Love talks a lot about importance of posture, breathing, chest voice, head voice and gives some tips but there were no exercises at all? Just theories. Not helpful.
