I read this years ago and decided it was time to freshen back up with the audible version, even though I knew the story I really enjoyed it. I love AR's attention to detail. Well researched and well written. thank you.

Not getting into this one very much

having a tough time with this series. I love Tom and Kevin but I'm just not getting a lot out of it. I'm sure in the end I'll pick up book three and four. But right now this is pretty mundane and repetitive of Tom's previous works and all of the other prepper fiction that I've read or listen to.

Disappointing

once upon a Time I read almost everything Arthur C Clarke wrote. I remember this as a great book. But I last read it 50 years ago. Thought the Audible would be a good refresher. It wasn't. It was just boring. Not sure if its the naration or the story. The British accents didnt help. Who knows?

Amazing

This is easily one of the best science fiction novels I've listened to or read in 40 years. I'm buying copies of the books for my 12-year-old grandsons in hopes that someday they'll create a time machine and come back and visit me. I can't wait for this to become a movie. The writing was so intricate and so well done. The storyline, just phenomenal. And the narration was top notch.

The Dark Road Series (5 Books)

Very good series. Very well written and the narration makes it very easy to listen to. (I've listened to close to a hundred post-apocalyptic books)

Pros: well written, good activity, fly fishing backstory is excellent.

Cons: I don't accept that all of these gas stations are going to be left un-guarded and easy to access. Also the route from Pittsburgh to Maryland doesn't have to go near DC (not sure what author was thinking) It's a little bit of a Rambo-ish in that the dad is an Army Ranger. However it's not all acts of superhuman strength like so many post-apocalyptic books that are written around a "Great, but modest, War hero". And, I wouldn't be sleeping in a tent where I couldn't see people coming up on me. As far as that goes I wouldn't be sleeping without everybody taking a watch shift.

But, I'll follow the rest of the series.

Plus: Now I have the motivation to get my '77 Chevy K20 back on the road.

Pretty impressed and comfortable with the narrator. As always AR's writing is impeccable. The attention to detail and composition is excellent. The story didn't quite have the depth I would have expected but let's see what happens in book two.

I was not a fan in book one, but chapter by chapter it the series really grew on me. By book 4 I was just blown away. The details and depth is what got me. The knowledge of the Everglades and wildlife was excellent. The detail about the religious cult though was just phenomenal, that sinched it for me. So much knowledge about everything. So well researched. So well written. Im a Kayla Stone fan now.

I really enjoyed this book. There's chapters that I need to go back and dissect and make notes on because they are fantastic discourses and explanations on significant legal issues in our time

Hard one to get through

I love AR Shaw's works but this audible 3 book series took forever to get through. It just felt like it kept going on and on. I wasn't crazy about the extreme torture so I had to pause for a few months until I got yesterday enough to slug through that. I think maybe I couldn't connect with the narrator, although she's got a great voice and great implexation it just wore me out. as always character development and detail or exceptional. AR Shaw has an gift for that. Most everything else of AR's I've read on Kindle and I enjoyed immensely. I consider her one of my top three post-apocalyptic authors. I'm just not sure what the disconnect is with me and this series.
