Historia
At 15, I killed someone. This was just one of many secrets that my brain hid from me. For most of my life, I had barely any memories of my childhood. Except for a few snippets, I lived in the dark. It wasn’t until I turned 36 that my world began to unravel. Slow at first, and then suddenly, all at once, long-buried memories that had been concealed in the depths of my mind for survival now surfaced, shooting to the forefront of my mind.

A Soul-Stirring Journey Through Healing and Self-Discovery
Revisado: 10-04-24
Melissa's book is an extraordinary read, one that I found myself pausing on multiple occasions, not because it was difficult to understand, but because it hit so close to home. Her story, with its deep exploration of emotional wounds, family dynamics, and personal struggles, mirrored much of my own life. It’s rare to find a book that can evoke both healing and reflection in such an impactful way.
Melissa’s experiences with anxious and avoidant attachment styles, her longing for parental approval, and her journey toward emotional freedom felt like reading a chapter of my own life. Her descriptions, especially of her father’s favoritism and the pressure she felt to achieve academically, really tugged at my heartstrings. Melissa's relentless drive to be the best mirrored my own path as an overachiever, and I could identify so deeply with her emotional home—where being obedient felt like survival.
One of the most profound parts of the book for me was Melissa’s healing journey, including her transformative experience with ayahuasca. Her bravery in facing deep-seated pain resonated with me, even more so because of my own similar, yet less courageous, encounter with the practice. The emotional farewell to her father was another powerful moment that brought me to tears, reminding me of my own family relationships and the complexity of letting go.
What sets this book apart from many others is its ability to speak to those who have faced significant challenges in life. It offers hope, reminding us that even in our darkest moments, we can emerge stronger, more self-aware, and with a clearer sense of our future. It’s a must-read for anyone seeking healing, understanding, and growth. Melissa beautifully demonstrates that no matter the pain, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
This book may be hard to read for those who have suppressed their emotions, but that’s exactly why it’s so powerful. It digs deep into wounds, only to reveal the beauty of healing on the other side. Melissa’s journey shows us that we are not alone in our struggles, and that by confronting our past, we can pave the way for a brighter, more empowered future.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has endured life’s hardships and is searching for hope, healing, and a path forward. Melissa’s story is proof that even the most difficult experiences can lead to incredible growth and transformation.
