Historia
To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. He and the Anti-Terrorist Task Force must stop "The Lion," an alleged Libyan terrorist with the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey.

The snarkiness is tiresome.
Revisado: 10-17-24
While the story is interesting, the snarky, smart aleck asides and interjections are tiresome. Regardless, Scott Brick does a good job telling the story in John Corey’s voice.

Historia
A white woman has been bludgeoned to death with an altar cross in a rural church on Cicada Road in Walterboro, South Carolina. Sam Jenkins, a Black man, is found covered in blood, kneeling over the body. In a state already roiling with racial tension, this is not just a murder case: it's a powder keg. Two young women are murdered on quiet Edisto Beach, an hour southeast of Walterboro, and the killer disappears without a trace. Thirty-four years later, the mystery remains unsolved. Could there be a connection to Stander's case?

Fun, interesting and good story!
Revisado: 06-04-24
I now live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. This story resonates with what I have come to learn of this area and its complicated history. It’s a fun, modern, interesting and engaging story, which has a number of twists and turns. The occasional asides by the murderer, who keeps track of the investigation, is an interesting device by the author. The reader kept me engaged in the story.

Touching story but hard to listen to.
Revisado: 04-15-23
A touching, coming of age story centered around Beaufort, South Carolina, during the Civil War. I enjoyed the story. However, the reader, who was the story’s author, was monotonous and stilted. A case proving that not all writers make good readers.

A wonderful and personal chronicle of places that evoke the reality and cruelty of the caste system in the United States. The writing took me to those places and made vivid the history that occurred there.

Historia
Pat Conroy's father, Donald Patrick Conroy, was a towering figure in his son's life. The Marine Corps fighter pilot was often brutal, cruel, and violent; as Pat says, "I hated my father long before I knew there was an English word for 'hate.'" As the oldest of seven children who were dragged from military base to military base across the South, Pat bore witness to the toll his father's behavior took on his siblings, and especially on his mother, Peg. She was Pat's lifeline to a better world - that of books and culture.

A bit sad to hear the family troubles
Revisado: 07-09-20
If you really want to learn more about the background of the family I believe this book provides that insight. It is so sad that their family was in such turmoil and that Pat lived his entire life in turmoil. He was an amazing writer but his life seems so tragic.

Incredibly timely story for these COVID-19 and CRISPR times. The events are dire and plausible. So glad that Peter May dusted off this unpublished manuscript from 2005 and released it to readers. Thoroughly engrossing. Full of twists and turns. A good read and listen.

The three-voice format was confusing. It would have been better to have one voice. For me, the best reader was Khaled Hosseini.
