Historia
Jerene Jarvis Johnston and her husband, Duke, are exemplars of Charlotte, North Carolina’s high society, a world where old Southern money and the secrets behind it meet the new wealth of bankers, real estate speculators, and carpetbagging social climbers. Steely and implacable, Jerene presides over her family’s legacy of paintings at the Mint Museum; Duke, the one-time college golden boy and descendant of a Confederate general, whose promising political career was mysteriously short-circuited, has settled into a comfortable semi-senescence as a Civil War reenactor.

Old Charlotte
Revisado: 10-09-16
Ok read if you're a native of Charlotte. It's always cool to hear a story about your hometown. Abrupt ending was disappointing.

Narrator's voice grated my nerves
Revisado: 07-10-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I purchased 50 Shades Darker after listening to Grey. It's been so long since I read the books, I got caught up in the story again. I enjoyed listening to Grey so purchased Darker immediately after I finished without listening to the audio sample. I will never make that mistake again! It was hard to get through this audiobook even though I was excited to go back to the story of Ana and Grey. The narrator's voice just grated on my nerves.
What did you like best about this story?
The story of Ana and Gray.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator's voice is so annoyingly shrill it's almost comical. When she quotes Grey or any other male character, it's even worse. It is my opinion that the narrator was the wrong fit for this story. Her voice does not portray the confused, naive Ana that we would expect. Her voice is just wrong for the character.
