Sorry to say this was not a good or worthwhile listen. An overly long, semi-fawning story about a cretinous woman who could bore a rock to death. Save yourself time and irritation and listen to something else.

Historia
Before 1871, Germany was not yet a nation but simply an idea. Its founder, Otto von Bismarck, had a formidable task at hand. How would he bring 39 individual states under the yoke of a single Kaiser? How would he convince proud Prussians, Bavarians, and Rhinelanders to become Germans? Once united, could the young European nation wield enough power to rival the empires of Britain and France - all without destroying itself in the process?

I’ve been wanting to learn more about the events leading up to World War I in Germany, and this book is an excellent introduction to that history. I was particularly intrigued by the story about Kathe Kollwitz the artist and the death of her son in the Great War.

Historia
Following the events of Kristallnacht in 1938, Peter Fleischmann evaded the Gestapo’s roundups in Berlin by way of a perilous journey to England on a Kindertransport rescue, an effort sanctioned by the UK government to evacuate minors from Nazi-controlled areas. But he could not escape the British police, who came for him in the early hours and shipped him off to Hutchinson Camp on the Isle of Man, under suspicion of being a spy for the very regime he had fled.

Such an unknown story is finally brought to life. I particularly loved the anecdotes about the Dada artist Kurt Schwitters: a great man whose absurdist poetry was greatly appreciated by his fellow imates.

I really enjoyed this tome, which I found hilarious and very interesting. He’s a great storyteller, and there’s no lack of laughs here. Brooks is a bridge between old and new Hollywood, and it’s clear reading this book why. Thanks, Mel, for the laughs and brilliant work over so many years.

Historia
In this unflinchingly honest documentary and memoir, comedian Josh Thomas asks the big question: how do I be gay? Irreverent but informative, Josh Thomas speaks to a party of hilarious and experienced queer storytellers as they share true tales and advice on how to be gay. When I was a teenager trying to work out how to be gay I would ask google impossible questions. 'Am I gay?' 'How can I test if I’m gay?' 'If I’m gay do I have to do anal?' It didn’t work....

Historia
No American city was more important to the Nazis than Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, the greatest propaganda machine in the world. The Nazis plotted to kill the city's Jews and to sabotage the nation's military installations: plans existed for hanging 20 prominent Hollywood figures such as Al Jolson, Charlie Chaplin, and Samuel Goldwyn; for driving through Boyle Heights and machine-gunning as many Jews as possible; and for blowing up defense installations and seizing munitions from National Guard armories along the Pacific Coast.

Amazing story of Nazis in Los Angeles and the brave folks who defeated them. I was appalled at the numbers and influence the Nazis had here. Now we’re dealing with the same crowd but all over the country and holding great power in the government.

Hilarious
Revisado: 07-22-22
This terrific listen made me laugh out loud many times. Even though much of the material may be familiar to many, the way it’s expressed is so exquisite, timely, beautifully written and ultimately very cathartic that it’s well worthwhile to experience. I’ve read many of the books about Trump, and this is by far my favorite. Trump is, amongst many other things, a great clown in the tradition of authoritarian fools in history. The book does great justice to the unintentional comedian and the gang of sycophants and brown nosers who enable him. Plus the narrator is perfect.

Historia
One of the greatest prose writers and social commentators of the 20th century, Aldous Huxley here introduces us to a delightfully cynical, comic, and severe group of artists and intellectuals engaged in the most free-thinking and modern kind of talk imaginable. Poetry, occultism, ancestral history, and Italian primitive painting are just a few of the subjects competing for discussion among the amiable cast of eccentrics drawn together at Crome, an intensely English country manor.
