I absolutely adored this book. couldn't set it down. as usual Stephen King didn't disappoint in the least. and Frank Miller, the actor who read the dark tower series, is back, and he is incredible.

I loved this book. I pretty much listened start to finish. I'm of a hillbilly background with an alcoholic mother, and I relished in every word JD Vance had to say. He put so many thoughts and feelings I've harbored for so long into such a beautiful little book. He speaks for our community, which I've felt for so long was just forgotten. just because you're white and of middle or upper class does NOT mean you didn't come from a bad home. I, like the author, am treated like an anomaly because I don't use like all my other family members. but like JD, I had a supportive partner and I learned how to believe in myself. I feel so empowered to know I'm not alone in my thoughts, and I can't wait to share this with my brother.

maybe it's because I work in the medical field that this book felt monotonous. I didn't feel it was special in any way. Dr. Marsh reminded me of surgeons I work with, his patients reminded me of my patients. it was really just a depressing reminder of how population increase, administrative hospital beurocracy subsequently increasing, and electronic medical records are destroying the healthcare system. it really made me sad to note that this is happening in Europe as well as America.

on another note, if you know nothing about modern day hospitals and their extreme faults, and how creul people can be when their health is comprised, please read! the stories seemed all too real, and the performance was excellent.

this book is slow and very contemplative. there is not a lot of dialogue between characters, which I struggled with for a long time. I began to realize that the style, although not my favorite, is told as if you were in the mind of the main character. as if you were in his brain, as it is told almost entirely with internal dialogue.

what kept me going is that I related to the loneliness of the main character, and his ability to feel so distant from his kin, but easily be adopted and trusted by others.

overall not my favorite, and to be honest the writing felt amateur, but a very interested read. it's nice to sometimes read something out of your comfort zone.

This was a beautiful story, that I just couldn't set down. Being from Appalachia myself, and knowing the struggle the main character felt--grasped my heart. This story will not be forgotten.

I really didn't enjoy this, but it was short enough for me to push through. The characters were bland, at best. There was no transformation, which is what I expect from his characters...from any characters really.

The performance was fine, I enjoyed the narrators voice very much, actually.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I love Jane Austen, and I love the idea of the marriage plot. I also am fascinated by feminism, and how it as really nulled the meaning of marriage. This book really spoke to me because I dated post feminism, and very much related to the feelings of the characters and the story.

I would say this has become one of my favorite books. I love Jeffery eugenides. He has a knack for creating such depth to his characters. For a postmodern girl in a postmodern world, I highly recommend it.

This took me an unusually long time to finish. Most of Atwood's books I fly through. But this one was slow. I liked the characters, but I didn't like that continually I had to hear the same story from 3 pts of view. It was overkill for me.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sacre Bleu to be better than the print version?

Idk. I prefer audiobooks in general because I can multitask with them...I'm sure I would have enjoyed the written text too if I had the time to read. This is not to imply that the actor reading wasn't fabulous. He portrayed the characters perfectly.

If you could take any character from Sacre Bleu out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Toulouse Lautrec was portrayed as such an interesting, charismatic, optimistic person. You would think the opposite considering his paintings and ailments. But maybe he was much more light than dark, who knows?
