Historia
Recalling the classic warnings against militarism, from George Washington's farewell address to Dwight Eisenhower's denunciation of the military-industrial complex, Johnson explores the trend of militarism that is bankrupting the United States and creating conditions for a new century of virulent blowback.

Disturbing and Thorough
Revisado: 08-18-20
I have long been suspicious of the military industrial complex (thanks Dwight!) and yet this took things to another level entirely. The amount of wasted taxpayer money, deception of our own citizens, and unnecessary death and destabilization we’ve caused around the world is truly stunning. As a nation, we are on a militaristic precipice from which it is not clear we are capable of turning back. Sadly, the author’s prescient predictions seem all too true now ~15 years out of publication.

A Democracy 101 MUST!
Revisado: 07-13-20
I loved it. Can not believe how much detail and history was included. My eyes have been opened as to so much of what has been going on (and going wrong!) with our democracy. Some things, like the specifics of voter suppression, demand a clear understanding by the American people so we can rise up and seize back a government that is fairly elected by the people. Bravo, Mr. Litt.

Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Exceptional
Revisado: 11-25-19
Love this beyond measure. It left me with profound and unanswered questions about my own way forward in a civilization I recognize as deeply incongruent with our human nature, and I suspect I’m not the only one. May this book be one rung in the ladder of progress... progress towards creating a return to a way of life integrated with all of our glorious natural ways.

Historia
For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.

Humanizing
Revisado: 11-26-18
As a relic at any Hillary 2016 voter, this book was incredibly humanizing for Hillary. I have a great respect for her and her perspectives now, however flawed she and the Democratic Party were in 2016.
I look forward to following her in public life going forward... she shouldn’t “disappear” at all.
