Beautiful Story

A beautiful period piece which summarizes the war between love-driven vs purity-driven religion as well as any I've ever seen!

Historia
The Professor is Charlotte Brontë's first novel albeit the last to have been published. Edited and distributed by Arthur Bell Nicholls, two years after Brontë's death, it is based on her experiences of living as a language student in Brussels. The Professor follows the career and love affairs of William Crimsworth, a reserved but compassionate aristocrat who has been ostracised by his family and left penniless.

Language: English. That's misleading.
Revisado: 04-05-23
If you look at the description, this title claims to be in English. It is MOSTLY in English, but if you really want to be able to follow a lot of the dialogue, you need to know some French, or your enjoyment will be limited, as mine currently is. I wish I had known before I got invested in the story.

good story. excellent narration
Revisado: 04-03-23
This was a good story and it was an excellent narration, and probably a lot of listeners won't notice this, but as a sound tech, the amount of mouth noise was nearly intolerable. I wish they had chosen a different microphone or a different mic placement because it was like having my ear right next to the narrator's mouth. Otherwise, it was a great performance.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

You will become very attached to Kaya. SPOILER ALERT: I did find the twist at the very end rather implausible for the exact same reason that the prosecution's argument was implausible. Still a wonderful story.

Historia
George Eliot's first full-length novel is the moving, realistic portrait of three people troubled by unwise love. Adam Bede is a hardy young carpenter who cares for his aging mother. His one weakness is the woman he loves blindly: the trifling town beauty, Hetty Sorrel, who delights only in her baubles - and the delusion that the careless Captain Donnithorne may ask for her hand.

Great Story, decent Narration
Revisado: 12-20-22
This is an excellent story. The narrator has good expression, and a good accent for these kinds of characters, but it is often difficult to distinguish between voices.

Historia
Hardy's first major literary success, here brought to life by narrator Nathaniel Parker, is the story of the independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene, who inherits her uncle's farm, the largest estate in the area. She surprises the villagers of Weatherbury by deciding to run it herself. Attracted to this bold young woman are three suitors all vying for her affections. They include the lonely gentleman-farmer Boldwood, the young and handsome but inconsiderate Sergeant Troy and the faithful shepherd Gabriel Oak.

Good
Revisado: 11-26-22
Thomas Hardy writes such vivid characters, and you find yourself getting invested in those characters a great deal. The narration was good, but not great. The narrator could do a better job differentiating between the voices of different characters, but I could tell who was speaking most of the time.

Historia
Tess Durbeyfield has become one of the most famous female protagonists in 19th-century British literature. Betrayed by the two men in her life - Alec D’Urberville, her seducer/rapist and father of her fated child; and Angel, her intellectual and pious husband - Tess takes justice, and her own destiny, into her delicate hands. In telling her desperate and passionate story, Hardy brings Tess to life with an extraordinary vividness that makes her live in the heart of the reader long after the novel is concluded.

A wonderful but absolutely heartbreaking story
Revisado: 10-30-22
This is my first Thomas Hardy book. The narrator was quite good. The story is engaging. Now I feel like I need to process it with another reader, and I really want to understand why this was a story that Thomas Hardy wanted to tell. My heart ached for Tess for a most of it, and (spoiler alert) found little to no consolation at the end. I am not sure if I would recommend this story to a highly empathetic person. It will wring your heart out.

I Don't Agree that the Narration is Terrible
Revisado: 01-21-22
I think it's just okay. There's a lot of music in this story, and this narrator definitely is not a singer, but he doesn't try to be. He just speaks the words of the songs. He also doesn't have as many distinct voices for different characters as some other more talented narrators do, but he's not bad. You can tell who's talking the majority of the time. I also don't agree that he sounds like he's bored. I think he sounds like he is mildly disgusted much of the time. He is a very okay narrator. Haha.
