Amazing storytelling
Revisado: 05-11-24
After John Carter of Mars I wanted more. Years later I read Carson of Venus and thought yeah this is the kind of story I can sink my teeth into. The adventures of ERB where other writers pick up the torch and continue his stories are done very well as in times it reads like ERB. Well done!!

Historia
During the year 1866, ships of several nations spot a mysterious sea monster, which some suggest to be a giant narwhal. The United States government assembles an expedition in New York City to find and destroy the monster. Professor Pierre Aronnax, a French marine biologist and narrator of the story, who happens to be in New York at the time, receives a last-minute invitation to join the expedition which he accepts. Canadian whaler and master harpoonist Ned Land and Aronnax's faithful servant Conseil are also brought aboard.

Childhood memories
Revisado: 11-17-22
Having only read the book around 10-12 yrs of age now 55, needless to say I was completely astounded by the complexity of Jules Verne. His knowledge of so many unique and wonderful parts of oceanography of scientific species of fish, the intricacies of underwater adventure written in the 1800’s no less (regardless of fact or if pure fiction) made me a believer of the story as if he was actually there.
David Linsky was superb in dialect actually as if he was each character and had been at the bottom of the seas himself with Verne.
The more of the classic stories I listen to I am taken to a place that I can’t even explain. No movie has done justice to 20,000 leagues which even by cgi standards there is enough there but has always fallen short. (as well as most has)
Having Audible has been a pure delight for my many driving trips or when working on my hot rods.

Tim Curry’s performance of the narrator was far beyond my expectations. Astounding classic novel by Jules Verne. I read it when I was real young and hearing it made the story come more to life. Especially the pronouncing of certain words that as a kid I mumbled over them. Can’t wait to catch more of Tim Curry but really eager to get into more of Verne’s writings.

Not what I expected, it was beyond a beautiful story.
Revisado: 09-02-22
After many years of being a horror fan reading so many of sci fi and horror tales this went beyond my expectations of what a beautiful story could be written. Jamie Bell was amazing. As many times as I’ve seen every movie of Frankenstein, not one has come close to capturing the true essence of what Mary Shelly tried to convey. I’m very glad to have had the chance to have the real story.

Historia
The sand-blasted world of Arrakis has become green, watered, and fertile. Old Paul Atreides, who led the desert Fremen to political and religious domination of the galaxy, is gone. But for the children of Dune, the very blossoming of their land contains the seeds of its own destruction. The altered climate is destroying the giant sandworms, and this in turn is disastrous for the planet's economy.

Not having the chance to read the book and only watched the Sci-Fi mini series of Children of Dune I had no idea of how grandiose this story was and how much the liberal freedom of a director can change things in a bad way. I’m not necessarily reviewing the mini series as there is no comparison to Frank Herbert’s writing. The narrative was spectacular as was the same narrator of Dune. The story was captivating as well as the different voices (was he using the voice on us listeners?) I hope the continuing saga of Dune has the same flow and narrative scope as this did. Very eager to begin the next and have my mind taken away to another galaxy!!

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Great memories of my youth
Revisado: 08-15-22
My grandmother had gave the series to my back in 74 I had just finished JRR Tolkien’s books and she thought it would be better. Well I only got to read them as o visited and over time I finished Dune but never got the chance to follow up. Later while in the Gulf War I got Children of Dune but never got to finish.
Yeah I’ve seen the movies the mini series enjoyed them for what they were but the narration and different actors made this book of my youth come alive. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the way it was portrayed. Hope the rest is by the same narrator. Can’t wait to get to the next one.

But when Nathan detours from his route to answer a distress call, a hidden stargate hurls him and his passengers to the Well World, the master control planet for the cosmos. Billions of years ago, a godlike race unlocked all the secrets of space and time and remade the universe according to their grand design.

More understanding of a strange story I caught in the middle.
Revisado: 08-05-22
During my time in the Gulf War we got pallets of books at one point shipped in. I started with Exiles at the well of souls and was mostly confused by what I read but I could t put the book down, also never got to finish it. Now some 30ish years later I found the series I didn’t even know there was one and finally got to listen/read the first book. Midnight at the well of souls. I am extremely pleased knowing now who the markovians are and the foreground story to Marvra Chang and Antor Trelig. The narrator of this story with his extreme deep voice made it very interesting his vocal changes for each character was amazing. Can’t wait to check out the rest of the series and even get back to find out what happens with Nathan Brazil.

“Spoiler”
The end of the saga the end of Elric, Moonglum’s death….all to start the world we know today.
Only if you know the series or know about the Last King and Emperor would you you understand. Much like 45 yrs ago when I read it the first time, it wasn’t easy coming to this last part of this hearing it.
But I digress, it’s only a book; right?
That’s for the next reader to decide. I sure hope the next Eternal Champion has better success and lives to tell the tell.
Oh wait a review…….
Wow! Much mad respect to the team that put this together and for Samuel Roukin, you rock!!

Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

Since the time of my youth I have not had the time I used to for reading a book. Always on the go. Oh how I always desired to go back and read Elric again. Kept my worn out books for that reason or possibly to pass down to someone. Samual Roukin as narrator was astounding the different voices played like a wonderful movie in my head, even better now after 45 yrs since I read the series at 55. Now my imagination is a bit more vivid but still took me back to a time I imagined the story first.
Just about to finish up the second volume and waiting till October for the third. Thank you Audible and those that brought this back to life. To bad Peter Jackson didn’t take on this roll in directing instead of LOTR and maybe one day we will have a true by the book representation of Elric, and this is a one that not a single part of this should ever be directors interpretation of what he feels the story should be like. I’m talking straight from the pages screenplay and very top notch cinematography. Oh well a rant for another day.
