Historia
Kelly Bishop’s long, storied career has been defined by landmark achievements, from winning a Tony Award for her turn in the original Broadway cast of A Chorus Line to her memorable performance as Jennifer Grey’s mother in Dirty Dancing. But it is probably her iconic role as matriarch Emily in the modern classic Gilmore Girls that cemented her legacy. Now, Bishop reflects on her remarkable life and looks towards the future with The Third Gilmore Girl. She shares some of her greatest stories and the life lessons she’s learned on her journey.

Not what I expected…
Revisado: 10-26-24
Kelly Bishop does a fantastic job narrating this auto-biography, and does a great job doing so. I feel the title of the book is a bit misleading though. There really wasn’t much mentioned about Kelly’s time in Gilmore Girls. As a big fan of the show and seeing the title as “The Third Gilmore Girl”, I really expected a good portion of the book to be about her time with the cast and on set. Unfortunately, this book is not that. This is an autobiography about Kelly Bishop, with Gilmore Girls briefly highlighted towards the end of the book. It’s a good listen, but I wish I knew ahead of time.

Historia
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

All I have to say is: Andy Serkis
Revisado: 09-28-24
Seriously. Andy Serkis is absolutely incredible! I was fully immersed from start to finish. Andy is so beautifully consistent delivering his vast amounts of character voices. In addition, you’re talking about the original voice of Smeagel/Golem from the Jackson trilogy. This is the way the Lord of the Rings should truly be told and I truly believe that Tolkien would be proud.

Historia
This is the strange and fascinating life of Erwin Rommel, from his days as a youth in Imperial Germany - when he had a child out of wedlock with an early girlfriend - through his lauded military exploits during World War I to his death by suicide during World War II, after he attempted a failed coup against Hitler. Rommel was a man of contradictions: a soldier who wrote a best-selling book about World War I, a commander who went from commanding Hitler's bodyguard to trying to kill him, and a serious military mind who was known for participating in practical jokes.

Historia
The Ultimate Battle is the full story of the largest land-sea-air battle ever waged by the United States, a battle whose staggering casualties and take-no-prisoners ferocity led Truman to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. From April through June 1945, more than 250,000 American and Japanese lives were lost, including those of nearly 150,000 civilians who either committed suicide or were caught in the crossfire. This book tells a gripping story of heroism, sacrifice, and death.

A horrific view of Marine experiences in Okinawa
Revisado: 10-18-22
This was a gripping and horrific view of the average Marines experiences in Okinawa from start to finish. As the final battle of the pacific and WW2, it shakes you to the core to hear what these servicemen encountered from a fanatic and diehard enemy. The story follows many different battalions while sharing individual soldier testimonies. It can be very gut-cringingly graphic at times, but thats war.
The narrator was excellent and really made me feel like I was there with these guys. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand a glimpse of what the pacific theatre was like and how that final campaign came to an end.

Historia
When World War II broke out in Europe, the American army had no specialized division of mountain soldiers. But in the winter of 1939-40, after a tiny band of Finnish mountain troops brought the invading Soviet army to its knees, an amateur skier named Charles Minot “Minnie” Dole convinced the United States Army to let him recruit an extraordinary assortment of European expatriates, wealthy ski bums, mountaineers, and thrill-seekers and form them into a unique band of Alpine soldiers.

Excellent story about the winter division!
Revisado: 10-06-22
This story was very intriguing and detailed. The title is a bit misleading, because it’s mostly a story about the history of the division. The focus on the battle is more or less just the last third of the book. As always, Mr. Grover Gardner did an absolutely fabulous job narrating this story. I highly recommend this, especially if you can grab it free like I did :)

Historia
December 1944: Deep in the Ardennes forest, a platoon of 18 men under the command of 20-year-old lieutenant Lyle Bouck huddle in their foxholes. Under attack and vastly outnumbered, they repulse three German assaults in a fierce day-long battle, killing more than 500 Germans. Only when Bouck's men run out of ammunition do they surrender. As POWs, Bouck's platoon experience an ordeal far worse than combat: trigger-happy German guards, Allied bombing raids, and a daily ration of thin soup. Somehow, the men of Bouck's platoon all miraculously survive.

Historia
Wendy Lower's stunning account of the role of German women on the Eastern Front - not only as plunderers and direct witnesses, but as actual killers - powerfully revises history. Many young nurses, teachers, secretaries, and wives saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of "Wild East" of opportunity, yet they could not have imagined what they would do there. Hitler's Furies will challenge our deepest beliefs using evidence hidden for seventy years: Women can be just as brutal as men.

Hitler’s Furies is fresh and original
Revisado: 08-30-22
I have consumed most of the reliable content pertaining to the Third Reich, Nazi’s, & Hitler. This book introduces a fresh approach to such a horrific and, paradoxically, fascinating period in time. Hitler’s Furies provides a combination of personal memoirs and historical information to paint an unimaginable image of German woman in the Third Reich, both during and after the war.
The narrator does a fantastic job of conveying this difficult topic and period in human history.

Great eye-witness account
Revisado: 07-04-22
William Shirer wrote the extremely detailed “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, which is an outstanding history of the Third Reich. “Berlin Diary” is his first hand account of the war up until 1941. Shirer was a news corespondent for the US throughout his time in Germany. His diary is full of his eye-witness account of many historically significant events throughout Nazi Germany. At times you can feel his biased throughout his writing, but that is where it is important to remember that this is a personal diary being kept.
The narrator does a great job articulating and performing, but does speak a bit fast. I found that turning the speed down to .9 significantly helped to slow the pace to a normal speed.
This is a must for anyone that finds interest in WW2 and Nazi Germany. You won’t find a more accurate account than that of a diary being recorded daily by an individual that actually lived it out!
