Yo Ho! Ho! and a Bottle of Rum
Revisado: 05-15-06
This one was a pure delight. Stevenson's brilliantly woven narrative makes a gripping storyline. It was also fascinating to understand how much popular culture borrows from his work. It was definitely a classic worth the time.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Extremely well read
Revisado: 05-04-06
This is a modern classic I always wanted to experience. The stark language and biblical simplicity of the book is quite haunting. Some have criticized the book as being too obvious. However, I see this as Hemingway's tool for creating the overall tone. Some have speculated that the sharks Santiago faces in the book is Hemingway's metaphor of the relationship between himself and the literary critics. Who knows? In any case Donald Sutherland was a great narrator. I was very happy with this purchase

Historia
The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires, and he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for 10 years, and never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs, nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames. He never questioned anything, until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid, and a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do.

This is a great modern classic. I always wanted to "read" it since so many people I knew kept referring to it. The pace of narration made it easy to listen to. Definitely a good purchase.

Historia
The horrors of the Spanish Inquisition, with its dungeon of death, and the overhanging gloom on the House of Usher demonstrate unforgettably the unique imagination of Edgar Allan Poe. Unerringly, he touches upon some of our greatest nightmares - premature burial, ghostly transformation, words from beyond the grave. Written in the 1840s, they have retained their power to shock and frighten even now.

Pretty Good
Revisado: 04-10-06
Overall this was a very good audio book. The narrator can be a bit dramatic at times, almost to the point of being slightly humorous. However, his earnest desire to communicate Poe's gloomy atmosphere deserves a lot of credit. My rating would be a little higher if they cut out the cheesy background music during the intros. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed my purchase.
