Storytelling ability

Liked character development. Liked author’s ability to explore the alternative reality topic in a believable, relatable manner. I generally don’t like fantasy but I was hooked within 30 minutes. Loved the narrator! She was able to voice men as easily as women characters. Characters each had easily distinguishable accents and manner of speaking. The ending was good and made sense but I was hoping for a specific twist ending that author didn’t decide to use. Best book I’ve read in a very long time.

Great writing for a High School Student

First, the story itself is one cliché after another. Young career driven woman from small town decides to leave her career, the big city and her big city boyfriend for her 10th grade boyfriend after an unexpected return to her hometown due to her dad’s heart attack. Within one week she solves a murder, dumps her fiancé, reunites with high school boyfriend and jettisons her surgical internship at a major hospital to live happily ever after in her hometown. It’s a story line that high school girls would love but I don’t think this is the author’s intended audience.
The problem with the book that prompted me to write a review was not the story line but the complete lack of research into things introduced as factual. This is where it begins to look like it was written by a high schooler.
I do hope the author will work harder on fact checking in the future to make her stories believable.
One final thing. There are 2 mysteries in the story. One is solved but the other is a cliff hanger.So, I guess I’d have to buy the next book to find out.

I chose this book without knowing anything about the author’s writing. I was so pleased to find the storyline and the writing were very good. The performance was excellent.

Characters Come Alive!!

The characters are so well drawn that I felt like I knew them. They come alive with the excellent narrations of Richard Armitage and Nicola Walker.
I look forward to another book!

Great Read!

This is the second book I’ve read and it’s just as great as the first! I’ve already downloaded The Marriage on my Kindle and I’m looking forward to starting that. I really recommend KL Slater!

Excellent Storytelling!

I chose this book because it was free with my membership and I was out of credits. I didn’t expect much. I was so pleasantly surprised by what a good story this turned out to be! I’ve already downloaded another one of her books. I recommend this highly!

I’m so glad to have found this author. He can wave a story that is so interesting and always give you a great ending. The people are real the motives make sense. It’s just a step above most books!

Juvenile Fiction

I think this book could have been written by any 9th grader. I don’t understand the good reviews. I continued to listen but it was just too ridiculous. Since there are such great reviews of the book, maybe the narrator is the problem. She makes the character seem silly. Maybe a difference voice and inflection would change that dynamic.

Joy Ellis is superb!

Great Author

I’m so excited to have found Joy Ellis!! This is the third book I’ve read and I’m really looking forward to the fourth. Richard Armitage does a super job of narration as well!
