Historia
Paris, 1933: Three contemporaries meet over apricot cocktails at the Bec-de-Gaz bar on the rue Montparnasse. They are the young Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and longtime friend Raymond Aron, a fellow philosopher who raves to them about a new conceptual framework from Berlin called phenomenology. "You see," he says, "if you are a phenomenologist, you can talk about this cocktail and make philosophy out of it!"

Excellent book, fantastic narrator.
Revisado: 04-25-22
The text by Sarah Bakewell is an engaging overview of and introduction to Existentialism, with an effective blend of ideas and biography, and the narration by Antonia Beamish enhances the already strong text immeasurably. Beamish has an appealing voice and reads with wit and clarity. It is a pleasure to hear a narrator who obviously understands the material. I think she may be the best narrator I've heard.

Lags in the middle, but not bad overall.
Revisado: 10-19-21
The title gives away too much, and the victim (already dead before the story begins) is the most interesting character. But overall, other than some rather dull filler in the middle, an entertaining mystery. The narrator reads clearly and expressively.
